Basemap Assitance Required

mattm

Doing my best.
Good evening everybody. I hope you're all well.

I am in need of some assistance with creating a basemap for Trainz 2006. My problem is not creating or exporting the image for the basemap, but rather how to properly resize the image so that it covers the entire object. This is what i mean:

That image is what appears on the basemap in surveyor, white space included. Could somebody please advise me as to what i may be doing wrong, as i am fairly computer illiterate, and can't work it out myself. The few tutorials and posts on the subject don't seem to deal with resizing an image to properly fit the basemap.

Thank you to all persons who render assistance in this matter.

Hello,

The baseboards in game are 720 x 720 meters. Your plane in GMax / Blender must also be 720 x 720 meters. When you do the UVW mapping, place the plane on the tga map image to cover an area of equal size. When I create my base maps, I adjust the map image to be exactly 720 x 720 meter so that GMax will not distort the image during the uvw process. I also use a 1024 x 1024 pixel resolution for the tga map image.

Hope that helps

Hi guys, thank you for replying. I worked it out. I had to resize the image in paint. The quality is a little blurry but its workable.

A question for bchester. the technique that you describe; i would like more information, and possibly a link to a tutorial, if that's ok. The technique you describe sounds like it's used for creating a basemap from scratch, in Gmax. If that is so, a tutorial or detailed explation on this post would be much appreciated.

Whoops! Silly me; ignore that last bit, just realised what you were talking about, and where to find a tutorial. I will give that a try and let you know how it goes.

Thanks once again for your help.
