Bald Patches in TurfFX

Ever since TurfFX were introduced I have experienced 'bald patches' in Turf in Driver which are not there in Surveyor. No subsequent Service Pack has resolved this issue. Does anyone else experience this? Does anyone have a solution/workaround?
 
I have also noticed the effect. Playing with density settings can reduce it somewhat but not completely. Though I suspect that there may be a degree of randomness involved in the real-time (Driver) display of TurfFX grasses.

Overall, I still like the improvements to a scene that TurfFX and Clutter bring to a layout and will continue to use them despite their difficulties. I add these effects as the final step and restrict them to within 100m or so of the track.
 
TurFX on most of my routes looks terrible. It sticks up in odd-shaped patches, usually covering the tracks/roads/whatever rendering the whole scene useless for photography. Needs a whole lot of work before I'll enable it again (or even use the textures).
