Bad Message Subjects

I've never quite understood the term "hamburger". It would seem to me that "ham" would indicate that it came from a hog. Cow, steer, bull, heifer, all those seem to indicate beef.

"Heiferburger"??????

By the way, when I type Heiferburger, I get these funny red squiggly lines under it. If I right click on it, I get a drop down menu that says "Heifer burger", "Heifer-burger", and "Cheeseburger". Anybody know what that means? Just saying.

I don't even know how much "bad schooling" can be put to blame, either. I know that the schools have classes in language arts, yet for me to read my daughter's writing is tragic. I love her to death, but there is a reason Scrabble gives you 10 points for the Z: It just isn't that common. And for that matter, the only word I can think of off the top of my head that has two of them back to back is "pizza". And I know the schools don't teach that.

I agree with Dick- I don't have a lot of time to read through a bunch of posts to try to decipher what a meaningless subject line is about. It has nothing to do with snobbery as it does with other things to be doing. I had my frustrated times in the beginning, but a well worded subject line will attract the attention of someone who knows the answer. You get their attention, and they help you solve the problem. You get the problem solved, no more frustration!!

I believe that the root issue is more than just not knowing any better. I think it boils down to just flat out not caring. (Excuse me while I go put my Nomex suit on) Dick's original comment was purely to try to help people. It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, it was simply to open eyes. "Aahhh! That's a pretty good idea. Maybe I can get my problems fixed more quickly!" But instead, people turn it to snobbery, an attack on the less educated, the foreign (no red squigglies) and just don't care to take advice. Instead, it is "Here's this guy telling me what to do. I don't have to do anything just because he says to do it." No, you don't have to do it. But you just might get a few more eyes that will help you find your answer.

I'm looking forward to this being my first post ever in a padlocked thread.

What are you trying to say about Floh-ri-duh, there, Mick??!!?? :hehe:

It might be interesting to consider that those who get it 'right' only do so because at some point they got it wrong and then listened to those who could help.

No shame in getting it wrong, but some utility in getting it right. :)

I have ran into this multiple times on forums, people think the same thing over and over. Not to be rude but ive seen it on forums alot. But yes i agree with amigacooke... No shame in getting it wrong you can always fix it :)

Hi Everybody.
3 reasons for bad posts:
1 poster did't get good teachings or schooling like you. ( I for one been down this road it's no fun )
2 poster has a dissablety of some kind that can not be helped ( very fursting )
3 poster is fornan ( not liveing in Canada or US )

For dragonharh to describe everyone on this forum not living in the United States or Canada as foreign (to which the spelling by him was “fornan”) is a total insult to all members not living in the foregoing countries for which an immediate apology should be forthcoming from the poster.

This is an international forum open to the trainz simulator users from all countries with its origins in Australia from which the game originated through its first creators and owners Auran. No set of members from any country has any right to put themselves above others by description, gender and especially race.

Regards to dragonharhs not getting “good teachings” at school, I would inform him that I left school at 15 years old barely able to read and most certainly not able to write. Due to an accident I did not start school until I was over seven years old and therefore on leaving had no qualifications whatsoever.

However, I then went on to teach myself the basics of mathematics and English which led me to become employable in a manual workers position. I then moved on to management improving my education along the way and now run my own company employing seven people. All you need to have is the will to improve yourself and not constantly seek out sympathy from others for your own shortcomings.

With regard to forum members with disabilities then fortunately we live in a world which can and does cater for them much better than previous generations. For persons who are not capable of using a computer keyboard there is always such things as speech to text software which alleviates the need to touch the keyboard at all. I use Dragon Naturally Speaking for all text writing and it is that software I am using to dictate this posting. Again all you need is the will to overcome the disabilities and the answers will be forthcoming. No doubt we shall see exactly that with the start of the para-Olympics this week in London

From a disgusted
Bill

Good Morning All
I have closed this thread, as it appears that a number of users seem to want to use it as a means of attacking and insulting others.

Again, the original post was specifically about the 'subject' line of the thread, which is intended to tell the reader what your thread is about. Simply saying "help" won't really do this, and likely won't get you far. On the other hand, a subject like "Looking for accurate locomotive dimensions/drawings" (best to include locomotive type as well) will let people know what your thread is about (aka, the subject of the thread). A clear subject will help you, the poster of the thread obtain the best help for your post. Most people have limited time on the forums, and will only look at posts that have a subject they know they can either assist with, or that is of interest to them. If your subject doesn't clearly show what your post is about, they are likely to skip it, and you may not actually get the help you want/need.

Regards
