backing up saved files

Dear Trainz community. My father plays trainz every day.

He just bought a new laptop and wants to back up his game file.

I'm not familiar with the game and was unable to find it.

Would anyone know where the saved files are located? Are they in application/user data folders or saved directly to program files?

p.s Are file names automatically given or named from user input? I.e
Save file as "whatever.whatever" or saved file as "Saved1.whatever"

Thank you in advanced. :)

Hi Nimbus - welcome to the forum.

Firstly you should register the serial number (usually on the manual cover) of your (father's?) copy in your (his?) profile, you will find help more forthcoming when users know you have a legit copy.

Exactly where 'stuff' is saved depends on which version you are using. For the most likely versions the most likely places are:

TRS04: ProgramFiles\Auran\TRS04\World\Custom\Various Folders. File folders have plain English names.

TRS06: ProgramFiles\Auran\TRS06\Local. File folder names are (IIRC) encrypted and need accessed thru Content Manager.

TS10\12 ProgramFiles\Auran -o r - N3VGames\TS10 -or -TS12\UserData\Local. Folder names are definitely encrypted and need accessed through Content Manager

Pretty sure I have that right (working from memory) if not somebody will be delighted to lob in a correction or two and in any case the pattern should be more-or-less obvious...

Andy ;)
