Automobile Horns

Looking for assistance in reducing the frequency that cars are blowing their horns in session. I am fairly sure it can be controlled in the config file for the vehicle, in the sound container, like below:

dayloop
{
repeat-delay 0,225
distance 20,200
ambient 0

Pretty sure it must be in the "repeat-delay" line, I just don't know which settings to change, and what the available ranges are for each.

Assistance is greatly appreciated with specifics on the settings if possible. If I'm totally off base in what controls the horns, I would like to hear that as well.

Thanks!!

Hello,

The horns themselves are in the game's internal coding. If the car has a sound effect already in it, it will most likely be the engine running.

Not sure I agree with this, although I am not the most experienced at manipulating content. In my research and efforts to fix this issue, I have found that each car asset has its own unique set of sounds and configurations for use in the program. It is my understanding that each car can be uniquely configured with its own sound files and settings for use of those sounds. I am able to switch sound files of individual cars, or delete them all together. What I am seeking is to be able to control the rate at which the horn sounds are used in the simulation.

Because the horn is within the game's coding, it cannot be modified.

The cars with their own sets of sounds have most likely an engine running noise. These can be modified; the horns can't.

Different Trainz versions have different amounts of horn noise; I barely ever hear the car horn in TS2010 build 49933 but remember it quite a bit before I backdated from 49938.

I'm sorry it's not quite the answer you're looking for.

Kieran.

Most the car's in the program have the horn's as a wave file. in CM, open the selected car, edit in explorer, You will get a list of files. Find the wave files, should be 2, motor sound and horn sound. I have deleted the horn sounds, I can not stand them. They might be volume adjustable but I am not sure never went that far!!!

Shows how much I know!

I think I'll stop trying to help for a while. :hehe:

I apologise for the misleading information; I was thinking you were referring to the honking of horns at railway crossings.
