Automatic Running Numbers

To start, I am running TRS2006, sp1.
I need to know what makes automatinc running numbers work.
I can see the code for the tag in the config file but no numbers appear on the rolling stock or locomotives.
Thanks,
Chuck H.

Ok. I have discovered that when I open in CMP and save, the running number code is omitted from the config file.
As this is a conversion to 2006, I presume that 2006 does not support running numbers. Am I right?
Thanks,
Chuck

I use two systems of numbers on my wagons, the old ones use running numbers, the new ones Chameleon to do the same thing.

I think KUID: 86627:1856 and KUID2: 86627:1573:1 use running numbers,

KUID: 86627:1701 Chameleon. All three work in TRS2004 SP4, TRS2006 SP1 and TC.

Running numbers uses six different planes and six separate texture files to give the numbers. The six additional texture files are roughly the equivalent of 1,200 polys, the basic wagon is often only 500 polys, the Chameleon way uses a single extra texture file and plane so say 200 poly impact and allows you to use proportional typefaces, something not possible with the other method.

Translation to use this you need to make changes in the GMAX mesh and incorporate scripts and changes to the config.txt files. This is not normally considered beginner stuff, in fact I'm not quite sure exactly how it works I just use it having got some one else more specialised to sort parts out for me. However there is a tutorial in the wikibook that takes you through some of this and may help your understanding.
