The whistle should be blown with duration and intensity commensurate with the circumstances presented :p

on wide open level crossings the driver will short blow the whistle at the whistle board (a White X ) some 100 meters before the crossing and another short blow just prior to passing over the crossing.
If he notices a moving vehicle approaching, he will extend the length of whistle and keep blowing till he is happy the vehicle has noticed the train, or has stopped.

If the crossing does not allow the train crw to observe the approach of vehicles he will blow long and hard till he enters the crossing.

At all other times the whistle will be sounded if the crew think animals, workers or trespassers are in danger of being struck by the train.

Emergency whistles are short sharp repeated whistles continued till the emergency has been passed,or other trains have come to a stand. In addition the locomotive headlight will be rapidly flashed, day or night.

Pass train departing Moderate long whistle.
Signalman or other authorised person signals the driver by hand short sharp whistle
Train is setting back three short sharp whistles

Call up the guard 4 short sharp whistles This might be used to call the guard back to the train if he was sent back to protect the train by applying detonators to the track.

A long whistle when stopped by a signal that is locally controlled.

That's about all I remember :)

i think there is a speed restriction on as just round the corner is a couple of mudholes either side of the Creek . I have seen them go a little faster through there.

nuni7270,
Here in QLD it is pretty much a sounding of the klaxon as the situation dictates. Sounded at the whistle board (black w on a white background as per built in content in Trainz ) for road crossings. a toot or pop, ie very short blow, of the klaxon for workers on track or other such occurrences. Then a longer blast if needed for idiots on platforms, tresspassers on track or urgent emergency situations.
Ghosty, I would hate to approach that particular crossing on a regular basis. I know you are not of an inconsiderate or stupid persuasion, so I am guessing you were in the pedestrian maze or in behind whatever safety barrier is at that location. That being the case it begs the question, why pedestrian traffic is pemitted so close to the track when vehicular traffic is held back further as is evident by the placement of the gates in your vid.
No critisism on you part mate but from this particular drivers perspective, it sets my hair on end.

I respect the job the drivers do and never go out of my way to put myself in harms way or in a position that would cause them a problem. he is a shot in the reverse view showign the point i was shooting from.

From the shot linked you can see the pedestrian fence of which i was standing behind, i just set my camera up in a way that it did not show the fence in the shot. But i understand where your your coming from.

Hi guys,

Great shots from everyone the last few days.

Forest_Runner, quality shots as always, though to be fair, most credit has to got to Axe1970. All you do is press print screen. On Axe's route, that is enough to produce spectacular shots.

Pete, more goodies from you? Do you sleep at all?

Matt.

I'm liking that model too, Pete. Awesome.

Was going to agree totally!!... but then there's Davido's cracking quality locos and rolling stock :p... so more kudos due there.
