Auran vs Amazon Trainz Simulator

Is there a difference between Trainz Simulator 12 sold on Auran and Railroad Simulator powered by Trainz 12 sold on Amazon by Just Trains?

I got both for Christmas and not sure if there is a difference and if I need/want to load the other.

Can anybody help me with this?

Sorry if this is a double post but I realized after posting in the TS12 section it was for technical problems.

As I understand it Auran/N3V have created several special versions of their Trainz programs for specific customers - Steam is one that I know of, Just Trains may be another. The versions are essentially the same although the build numbers will be different.

The major problem that seems to be reported here in these forums with these special "designer" versions is applying patches and upgrades. With the versions sold from Auran/N3V through stores and online you simply download and install the supplied patch (or the program will auto-patch itself) from the Trainz DLS web site. To update and patch the Steam version, for example, you will have to wait until Auran creates the patch/update specifically designed for that version (i.e. build number) and passes it on to Steam who will then make it available on their web site.

That is the situation as I understand it.

The "Just Trains" version sold on Amazon should have no patching problems at all, I have the "Just Trains" version of TRS2004 & it patched from the
Auran/N3V website without a problem, it is only the "Steam" version that needs special patches, due to the different coding that "Steam" uses.

I got the Just Trains version a few weeks ago and loaded it first. I was able to apply the first patch which brought it up to a point where I could do the most recent patch. I don't remember the numbers but it seems to be working just fine.

I guess my question now is how do I know if the Just Trains version is more limited than the Auran version? The Just Trains requests 20GB while Auran is 15GB so I'm assuming they are the same and not limited.

I'm guessing Auran did not want to sell directly in the US due to packaging restrictions and licensed the product to another for retail sale. When loading it still directs you to Auran just like you would expect.

Wouldn't know why it's bigger. I do know that JT does use some copy protection, etc. in their software, so perhaps this is the additional content you are seeing.

Auran does sell to the use via digital download and by boxed set, you can order these through their website. There is about a 2-3 week shipping time, maybe longer, due to the product coming from Australia.
