Audio Issues!!

I keep losing audio and having to click on the Windows desktop and back in the game to make the sound come back. This continues constantly. This never happened until the last update. Am I the only one experiencing these issues? This happens whether I run in windowed or full screen. This is the most frustrating thing ever. Anyone else have the same problems?

I don't have any audio issues.

I have to Alt-Tab out and back to get audio in Surveyor.

I have had occasional audio muting in game sometimes several times in a Driver session, again Alt-Tab out and back to cure it.

I also experience sound degradation where sounds will cut out and back in abruptly - this is especially truck of Jointed Rail's built in tracksound which is the "squeeking and grinding" heard when their rolling stock is in motion. It's NOT their sound that's at fault though, it's the game not handling audio gracefully. It runs out of channels and the audio starts cutting in and out.

The issue with the sounds clipping and cutting out like you describe is also an issue in TS12 pre SP1. Now the sounds just die which means there's something else wrong. Maybe now that the sounds are broken in another fashion, the whole thing-a-ma-jig can be repaired. It's as though their sound drivers are overwhelmed with information and can't keep up. I noticed this while driving my Gloucester route with the trolley cars squealing, clanging, and squeaking all the while JR freight cars are squeaking and grinding on the nearby steam/diesel road.

Have you updated to HotFix 3 yet?

After installing SP1, I noticed that all the sound would cut out periodically. Clicking "P" twice to pause and unpause would get the sound back. Switching to another view would also work. After installing HF3, the sound cutting out issue appears to be solved.

I've been testing the sound issue on my "Goldsboro Local" session, which starts out with several lengthy sound files being played. I've run it half a dozen times since installing HF3 and it hasn't cut out once.

I have HF3 yes.

The issue seems to be as JCitron said - too much. Now every system has it's limits, but there's no graceful degradation (IE fade out sounds before cutting them) it just "robs Peter to pay Paul" when more buffers are needed.

The is compounded by the fact that if ONE bogey has a sound, they ALL inherit it. So you can't even get around it by trying to make sure some bogeys have no sound assigned...

So, put one car, just ONE from JR on the tracks and 50 others with NO sound and you get 102 instances of the bogey sound running....

I've been out of town, so until you mentioned it, I did not know that HF3 was out. Maybe I'm just not paying attention or the advertising of such releases are lacking. In any event, I will apply that fix when I return home for the evening. I read through the fixes and didn't notice anything that pertained to this problem, but it sounds as though you and I have or had the same issue. I certainly hope this fixes my issues. This is the most frustrating bug I have ever experienced in Trainz. I'm kind of OCD and this is not helping.

David

May be a bug with your sound library cache. Try deleting your cache/libraries folder while Trainz is not running.

The same here. I still have 'mine' sounds that are heard for many, many baseboards after driving 40 miles away. This is an old issue that goes back to when you could hear crossing bells 40 miles away.
