ATTN rumour3: question regarding two of your (updated) assets

I have found that two of your assets have somehow been updated to trainz-build 3.5 (TS12).

BR Class 31 interior,<kuid:79563:10401> - original
BR Class 31 interior,<kuid2:79563:10401:1> - 3.5 version
Class 47 interior,<kuid2:79563:1205:1> - 3.5 version
Class 47 interior,<kuid:79563:1205> - original

Are you aware of this, as the DLS is reporting the :1 versions as updates, despite the fact that only TS12/TS Mac users can download them?

Shane

I did not repair these for the DLS Cleanup, but really, really want to remind repairers as well as content creators to please, please use version 2.7 (TC3 - still being allowed for now) or 2.9 (TS2009, the CMP default.) This is the second instance in as many days of people saying they are having trouble with content because the Trainz-build is too high. Thank you.

That's why I'm interested to know if rumour3 updated his own assets, or whether it's a faulty fix from the DLS Cleanup.

Shane

He updated them himself, there was a fair bit of discussion about it in a thread on here somewhere.

As for them being build 3.5, it makes perfect sense, as the update fixes an issue related to the in-cab lighting changes in TS12. The updated assets being build 3.5 is the 'right way' given that the updated version will not look right in prior builds.

That a FCT user sees them as an update available, even if they don't own TS12, is the way it's always been.

Thankyou for the useful information.

I think N3V need to sort out something that prevents assets with a higher build number than the highest/current version a user has installed or is using, from appearing as either updates or normal assets in Content Manager searches.

As a TS10 user that cannot use this update, how do I get rid of them from my Download Update window? They will not Download.

I'd be inclined to report the problem by raising a helpdesk ticket.

If you open the item for edit, copy the folder somewhere outside of trainz, revert the edit in trainz and delete the item, go to the copied folder and change the kuid to match the updated version, don't change anything else, then drag and drop the folder into content manager to reinstall it, that should solve the problem. Yes it's long winded but it gets rid of the problem for now.

Hi folks

As already noted, these updates are specific to TS12 so on the 'don't fix what isn't broken' principle I made them for version 3.5 upwards. I've been caught out downloading 'fixed' assets that break built-in content so my approach to downloading updates is to only get them for assets that I've been unable to use but really need for some reason. This means my download screen is showing about 800 updates so it doesn't trouble me that I don't have a clear screen, but I can fully understand why people would think that an available update automatically implies a fix or improvement that they ought to be able to have.

From my perspective, the game shouldn't show an update if it is for a higher build. Alternatively, if it isn't possible to check the build before attempting to download it, the game ought to offer the option to remove an item from the list after a download has failed because the version number is too high.

I haven't tested the change in 2010 but in theory there is no reason why I couldn't experiment and release a :2 update with a 2.7 build. However, I think this is going to become an increasing problem as assets are updated to use new features so I think it's something for N3V to fix in 2010.

If you made/repaired it, for 3.5 upwards and it won't therefore work in the earlier versions any more due to new tags or features then said asset should have been given a new kuid number not been left as a kuid2 so as to not interfere with the earlier versions. If on the other hand it will still work in earlier versions then it should have been given a 2.7 number before uploading. It's not up to Auran to handle this it's up to the creators. If Auran were to lock out trainzers with earlier versions then there would be a lot of unhappy trainzers, as there are a lot of assets that will still work in earlier versions, even though they have a higher number just by backdating the number.

The point is that those with earlier versions can still use the originals, which work perfectly OK. I updated the assets to fix a very specific issue in TS12, and they needed to be version updates rather than new kuids in order to overwrite and fix the built-in assets.

The problem arises because 2010 is showing users an asset that isn't for their version and they don't need. The update doesn't interfere with the earlier versions because the game won't let them download it, so why would the game show it?

It isn't that the asset uses any new TS12 features, but I didn't see any point in making thousands of TS2010 owners waste time and bandwidth downloading something that isn't needed.

Yea that is a problem if it's a built in as what I said wouldn't work in that case. But you know what Auran's going to say about it, just get the latest version of Trainz, problem solved.:D
