Attachments attached to nothing?

I'm modifying some Timber Ridge Line 2004/2006 assets so that they will run under TS2009. A problem I'm having is typified by the Auburn-House which posts a number of errors of the form:

Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke0) in 'smoke0' was not found.
Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke1) in 'smoke1' was not found.
Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke2) in 'smoke2' was not found.
Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke3) in 'smoke3' was not found.
Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke4) in 'smoke4' was not found.
Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke5) in 'smoke5' was not found.
Error: Attachment point attachment (a.smoke6) in 'smoke6' was not found.

The config file has attachment clauses for smoke but, the im (mesh) file has no attachments. When there is a disconnect between the config file and the mesh file like this, should I assume the config file is wrong and delete the attachment clauses or ???
Any help would be appreciated.

I always check the mesh file to see what attachment points are actually there. Sometimes the attachment points listed in the config.txt file are typos and sometimes they just aren't in the mesh. I use PEV's Mesh-Text-Viewer to view the contents of the mesh. The attachment points are listed at the end of the mesh file. If you don't have PEV's great tools, get thee to http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/~villaump/pevsoft.htm and download them.

If the attachment points aren't there, then all you can do is delete the containers that reference the attachment points.

It is very common with smoke attachments for some reason, and in any case the smoke feature is overused in my opinion, so a few less smoking houses is fine by me..:)

You can also check what attachment points are present in CCP.

1 - Click on the line describing the error in the lower box, and in the main box you will see the description of the relevant container. The faulty attachment point should be highlighted in red and there is a button with a downward arrow on its right.

2- Clicking on that button, a drop-down menu showing all the attachment points in the mesh shall be displayed. Then you can verify if the attachment point is missing because of a typo, or if it does not exist at all.

I found this type of error very common where a large number of similar attachment points is presente (e.g. passeenger sit poins) or when the faulty content is part of a series of similar objects and the config was copied from one to all the others.

Thanks guys for the ideas. Originally I used the PEV mesh text viewer to look for attachments, but I hadn't thought to use CPP.

BTW, TRL assets seem to be missing a number of texture files. It seems strange that TRL and assets would be on the DLS and have all these texture file gotchas. I've resorted to looking for like-named textures in other assets or guessing what the texture might be and creating one in GIMP, ... but its a very painful process. There must be a better way.

Just remember, if you use CCP on older assets it will convert them to the version of Trainz that you're using. This may cause you additional problems which you'll have to fix to continue using them.
