Attach session to cloned route

I have cloned one of my routes to modify it, I now need to transfer/attach a session from the original. Any pointers please?

It is possible, but you will need to manually modify the config file for the session.

You will need to change the map-kuid entry in the session's config file to the KUID of the new (cloned) route (you will also have to change it in the KUID table if it's present there) then save and commit.

Thanks Shane, I thought it was something along those lines but knew I could mess things up if I didn't get clarification.

If you have made changes to the track before you add the session it could become a mess. You need to add the session to the clone before you make changes.

Clone your sessions before you change the map references that way you do not lose anything should things go wrong.

I've done this myself a few times, however, I noticed something really weird. There were "ghost" consists listed in the config.txt for trains that no longer existed on the route in its present state. They were appended to the current consists and the list grew as I made changes. It's not as though I had placed the trains in surveyor mode which I never do unless I'm testing a height of an overpass, I had placed all my, then listed consists, in the sessions.

So keep this in mind and it might explain some of the sluggishness and poor performance you may receive.

We wouldn't have to do this if the original session content went along with a route/session save-as, but it does not.

John - I have seen something similar to this at times, I get round it by deleting the driver setup rule, saving the modified session then going back in and adding a new driver setup rule.

Thanks for all the advice, much needed as there seems to be many pitfalls while trying to avoid them by cloning :)
I added a fresh section of track to ease congestion, I'll check if the session consists are using it.
The session consists are on their own layer but that's another story..........

Good to know. Thank you for the heads up on this one!

Using this principle, is it possible to clone and edit Midshire Mainline to remove the SpeedTreez, and then attach the default base session (with the ATLS stuff on it) to the new cloned route?

Yes as long as you do not move the track, trackmarks or industries before connecting the session, preferably a clone of, to the new route.
