ATLS questions

I just read the PDF instructions for setting up a level crossing using the ATLS items. Followed the instructions to the letter, but nothing works. My question is, do I need to use specific signals ? I am using the "Grade Xing NRC LED Gated" just like I see on the Mojave Sub route (that is where I first saw these items used). Anyone know what the deal is? The tutorials don't mention anything about what signals to use and how to set them up.

Thanks.

Thanks, that video is very different from the one on Boatz website. The video shows the signals being directly tied to the slave. That is NOT how the PDF shows it. I will experiment with it to see.

Thanks, again.

The order doesn't seem to matter, just as long as the stopper, the slave and the two gates form a single 'chain'. Wide crossings that need two - or even three - stoppers, same thing: any order so long as it is a single chain...

The 'signals' you see in the video are the road traffic flasher signals. Do you mean these or the train track signals?

For train signals, you just place them on the track as normal. Most signals will work except a few that have their own internal script which conflicts with ATLS. There is a section on this in the pdf.

For road signals, (flashers).... My own traffic lights work directly from the Controller, (by 'radio' link), so my pdf just shows that. BNSF50 has chosen to activate his road flashers via the slave instead. This method is an addition/alternative to the original system.

Hope that helps,

Sorry, I was away for a little while. I figured out what the deal was: Instead of using a "crossing with signals" I use only signals. It is easier to set up. Two signals, one controller , one slave and two triggers per track for as many tracks as you have. Slave connected to one signal on one end, the other signal on the other end. Everything on the same channel and done! They all work great, Boat. Thanks for all your hard work on these pieces.

Here is another question. I cannot seem to find out how to set the radius of the triggers. I read somewhere that you click the "?" and go into there to set the radius, but when I get in there I don't see where to change it. I need some triggers with a very close proximity. I want a car or loco to get right next to one before it triggers the signal. Any help there?

Thanks.

I thought the ATLS triggers were a fairly small radius anyway (like, maybe 5m at most), but I could be mistaken.

Hi,

No, ATLS Triggers are the same as ordinary triggers for this. They will default to a radius of 20 meters.

To change that you go into Tracks/TrackMarks, (the place in Surveyor where you find TrackMarks and Triggers etc). Then drop down the Advanced box. You can adjust the radius there.

ASB Turnout is very critical for this. If you click on the banner below, that will take you to my Turnout page. Scroll down to the Tutorials and press one of the FT (Full Tutorial) immages, (either one) and that will download a pdf. Page 4 has instructions how to change a Trigger Radius. It will work the same for ATLS Triggers. (Turnout is payware but don't worry, the tutorial is free ;))

I've never reduced the radius to less that 1 meter but I know Stagecoach has reduced his to 0.5. Don't know if there is a minimum.

0.5m is what ive used on the triggers placed each side of the crossing (the two middle ones on a 4 trigger set up) This was because I used the inverse slave in the crossing and this stopped the triggers seeing the slave. The Inverse slave when used will allow scripted signals to perform the right way with ATLS crossings.
