Article: Trainz: A New Era Community Edition v1.2 is Now Available

I know what you mean Paul (and I've found out why it's such a problem with Norton - it's Symantec's reputation system that's to blame).

Incidentally, I've got a thread in the Trainz: A New Era + Kickstarter forum regarding it, including a link to my latest VirusTotal analysis.

Shane

Norton is reporting "setup.exe contained threat SAPE.Heur.5b67" and is blocking the setup.exe file from being extracted. Therefore can not install v1.2. Is this a real virus or a false positive. Auran, can you check and get back to us. Thanks,

Downloaded and installed. Everything seems fine. Database built very quickly. Thought I was on a winner until I tried to Drive Session, Nothing. Wording goes from grey to yellow when the pointer is on it but clicking does nothing.
So I tried to edit session and that takes me to a blank baseboard with the new route window showing.

Time for my Prozac........

A further update: After the Dallas download completed, the program installed, I adjusted the Settings, tried to gain access to the 'Tutorials' and then everything froze-up. I waited 30 minutes to see if it might clear but no luck. I had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete then shut down and re-started. The same thing happened again.
I then Un-installed every T:ANE file and this time I used the San Jose server to download it again. This was much faster and it completed the download in 2 hours 50 mins. I was then able to access the Tutorial and completed one item, then skipped to Start T:ANE game. The list of 4 Routes showed up, but another Page popped up suggesting I download all the Beta files for the Test Track (which I wasn't really interested in anyway) In trying to cancel this page, everything froze-up on me, changing the Resolution of my computer to a very large display. If I need to download all the Beta files as well, I guess I should go down that path.
This method of installation is not easy.
I'm now thinking I may be better to wait until my boxed set arrives instead, hoping that all will be sorted out by then.
Cheers, Roy3b3

An Update: It's important to download the 'Beta Files' because they happen to be additional Routes. I'll see what happens after the downloads are completed.

Final Update: All systems go! Finally, after every download possible and numerous computer re-starts, "T:ANE has left the station" . I'm now looking forward to a happy healthy life with some positive routes to follow. Cheers everyone. Stick with it! Roy3b3

Yes, I had the same problem, but I persevered by going to the Settings to confirm my Account. Once it accepted that, I restarted my computer and when I reopened the game, you've got to go to the Tutorial first, do one of the exercises, then 'skip' the Tutorial. Try to Launch T:ANE normally and you'll see further Beta Files to unload. Once they are downloaded, you should have no problems. Cheers, Roy3b3

Shane and Others,

I did read the remarks on the Norton "problem" by Shane and others.
However, I prefer to play it safe and I have to make the following personal remarks.
I prefer a virus detection that sometimes gives to much protection over a virus detection that sometimes misses one.
Shane wrote that he does not have any connection with N3V and that his judgement on the safety is his own (not from N3V).
In that case I have to say, that I have no connection with N3V and I have also NO connection with Norton.
Under no circumstances I will start a discussion on the quality and working of protection.
What I can say, is that I have many years of experience in ICT and I am familiair with these kind of isues.
Therefore I have a simple opinion on this kind of isues.
The scan was NOT a reputation scan (as mentioned) but a simple detection of a signature of a known virus.
In that case there are 2 possibilitiies.
1. It is a virus indeed.
2. A harmeless file has by change the signature of a known virus.
I scaned the zip file and indeed, Norton places the setup.exe in the zip in quarantaine and removes it from the zip.
Because I do not know for sure that the file is harmless, the file will stay there untill the isue is resolved.
Resolving the isue is not by trusting this file (because someone says so) and taking it out of quarantaine and running it.
I did send the file to Symantec (Norton) because that will resolve the problem when they are the problem.
Nevertjeless, as Shane does not is officially N3V, I will not decide on the fact wheter the file is a virus or only has the signature of a virus.
I do not know how the distrubution of the CE V1.2 files is protected. I think N3V has to check this too.
Sometimes virusses come with distribution of software too. Maybe someone has "doctered" this file somewhere in the process,
I simply do not know. The best thing N3V can do, is to make sure that the distrubuted setup.exe passes the Norton check.

Bottom line (for me) is, that I will not run a program that (according to Norton) contains a virus, even when Norton is wrong.
Everybody, who knows about this isue can run the setup.exe provided, but IMVHO does so on own risk.
If the setup.exe contains a virus I do not know if N3V is to blame, but they have to look into the matter anyway.
For now, I wait for an answer from Symantec, for a new CE verion, or for my ordered boxed version, whatever comes first.

I've download twice with McAfee off using Download Ninja. I get an 0x80004005 error when I unzip the files. Since I only have DSL it takes about 7 hours each time hard to image a smooth download in that long a time. I'm running window 8.1. Anyone have an idea what to try.

Thanks for this AptivaUser. I spent most of yesterday trying to install without realising my Norton's Antivirus was doing the same thing but without warning me it was deleting setup.exe.

Happen the same problems at me... help please!

It was with great anticipation that I downloaded V1.2 from the London Server (which took 2.5 hours). However when I came to de-compress it, my de-compression software gave me the message ....setup_5a.bin. File is broken.
I decided to continue with the installation but it fell over half way through with the error:
......\builtin\tree_4\content\kuid2 523 1338 2.tzarc.
An error occurred whilst trying to copy a file: The source file is corrupted.
Whether I take the option to retry or ignore, the error is repeated after several minutes.
Where do I go from here? Or shall I download it again from your server?

I Had the same problem as bourne3. I deleted the download and give up. Will wait for the Boxed copy to be delivered some time before I die.

I woke up this morning after a successful T:ANE download anticipating a nice weekend running the installed Routes. However, it only took me 5 minutes into a 'C & O Hinton' session to see the Red Bug appear. All of a sudden with no warning the screen freezes-up, followed by a Windows Warning that unless the program is terminated, it would shut down,... and it did.
Not to be discouraged, I re-started this time on the 'SeasonTown Northern RR' session; and you guessed it, within 4 minutes I had a frozen screen which went black, keyboard and mouse not functional, Ctrl-Alt-Del not functional, so it meant switching power off completely.
I'm now attempting to create a new one baseboard Route to see what happens - anything with a missing dependency is being deleted, but I'm hoping for the best.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, I may just wait for the boxed-set to arrive - it could be less problematic. Cheers,
Roy3b3

OOOP's ... I spoke too soon. Well, I started out this time in Surveyor on a single baseboard with all good intentions, laid a few sections of track, put a station in place, saved it; and was deciding on an industry (about 2 mins), when the screen locked up all by itself (no movement of mouse or keyboard). I waited 30 minutes and it was still in the same condition. Ctrl-Alt-Del wouldn't work, so it meant switching power off completely. On re-starting and trying to edit my work of art, the same thing happened again - complete freezing of my desktop. It seems that no matter how large or small the route or session you are using, we will still face the same problem.
I find it hard to understand why this would happen on a Gaming computer, when I have no trouble accessing any other commercial game in the market without complete freezing-up. It does look like I am destined to await the 'boxed-set' before I can enjoy T:ANE in all its glory. Let's hope that particular version will operate without problems.
Cheers, Roy3b3

Just downloaded TANE not impressed, Colour very pink ,game not so responsive as ts12 . 1st session crashed with no warning ,cannot find in game downloaded route anywhere.
