Article: Trainz 12 Service Pack 1

This list may have 10 to 20 small patches depending on this list

Normal patches 500mb and under but the patch above is nearly 2gb, I do agree I having some of these problems but the patch is to big or not able to install.
I'm afraid it's not that simple Matthew. The patch isn't that size because of the number of code fixes, its also related to the sheer volume of the asset fixes. Because of the interconnected nature of Trainz asset system, and how that ties together with some of the improvements we've made, we couldn't release these asset fixes piecemeal without complicating the procedure and possibly introducing more bugs.

I understand that this patch is very large, and we have done what we can to make it smaller and in the future will try to ensure that it's not that big. However, more and more, 1GB patches are becoming the norm with computer games. We won't be changing our plans with SP1 in regards to filesize.

Meanwhile though, we would like to help you with your patching issues, but your comments about your problems don't seem very specific. Can you please let me know exactly what has gone wrong? The more information we have the more likely we're going to be able to get to the bottom of this.

thanks for reply GPavlich as it helps me understand, I was trying to help and be honest I have notice when the patching is being done in NV3 folder in bin folder there are about 3 files that keep blinking like they were updating srcFile and difFile and another file like it was in folder then not the reappear as the patching is being done. A lot of the time it's been doing all night and day.

I understand there is a hotfix coming out for service pack 1 for TS12 but the patch should have been done when i woke up this morning, when I started last afternoon but no such luck

but the green bar stays in the middle as well flashing

can you please can you tell me how long should it take, if it takes longer what do I do. ;)

yours

Matthew

Have anyone merged anything yet? --- since T12 crashed when merging routes I have been told!

Thanks
Ish

What a bunch of moaners you are, after privte messaging with one of the techs over the past 24hrs managed to overcome any difficulties and patched TS12 including add ons, SnC, Treez successfully. Problem related to Trend securtiy, I unplugged from internet, shut Trend down and a way we went. Only warning related to Windows Defender not liking Taedemon doing its thing but all one has to do is to Allow it. Opened up TS12 and it proceeded to download all the addons, SnC in two patches, Treez in one patch, NO WORRIES. The whole process takes awhile to complete so I went to bed after starting TS12 got up at 0200 hrs and it had completed its job. About 3-4 hours in total. congratulations to The Team.
Note
We have all been warned in the past that we must do two things when patching Trainz, after downloading patch
a) Turn off anti virus
b) Close all running programs
c) Looks like Windows Defender will respond with a warning which one can allow
That then allows the main game to run as before.
Not experience other add on problems as I have still to run the game with my route, I have a lot of Paulz Trains loco's and carriages, Will do the today.

Merged a couple of longish UK routes, ones I used to test previously that crashed TS12, it now works, no crashes and nothing appears to be missing.

I will be testing that once I've patched my version. If it's successful, I will be updating the relevant tutorial.

Shane

Thanks Shane -- Please PM whenever that task is complete so I can update my blog about it!

Appreciate it!!

Hi Robert, can you tell us what the error message says? or even better, send me a screenshot? We'd really like to help you here.
No I can't give you a screenshot unfortunately, I began reloading about 24 hrs ago (took me a few hours to back up my user data files). I then deleted Trainz 12, re-installed it (OK) it then updated with the first patch (great) and I have been installing the new patch for the past three hours, and I am only half way through that process!! I will then have to copy across my original user data files which is likely to take another few hours. I don't understand how a 1.8 Gb patch can take so long to unpack itself. I am using a Intel Core 5i CPU.Bob

My experience was almost identical with the Trend Micro issue. The Windows Firewall issue with TADDaemon is nothing to be concerned about as Trainz will just assume you are offline. I had a number of DLCs plus stuff I bought years ago so that added up to about another 2GB. I just let it run overnight. I did have another installation problem with a errant script file which was entirely my fault. The support and advice I got was really good.

Some of the issues folk are complaining about, except the DLC issue, have been discussed for months in the content development forum. But I guess then it was only of interest to content developers. :)

Heres my minor bug report. Raildriver buttons dont seam to work any more. All the levers and knobs work. But I cant sound the horn, or ring the bedd from my RD.

Might be a bug on my end, or with the game. Still investigating.

Hi JIb228,

We've got a fix for this Raildriver issue. It turns out the config file just needed updating. There's a thread here that explains what you'll need to do:

Hey everyone,

I know I still have to get back to a few of you yet, but I just wanted to give thanks to a few specific users: JackDownUnder, pcas1986 and pdkoester. So far we've managed to sort out the problems they've had with the patch process, and so far it's been an external issue rather than patch itself that's caused the problem. If you are still having issues, we want to help you or at least identify what the problem is, so please do let us know.

I also just want to say to anyone who hasn't downloaded the patch: There are people who have had problems with it, but there are plenty more people who have patched successfully already... It's just when the patch works for them there's not really much reason to post about it. We're more likely to get people posting who have problems and are looking for a solution.

Just lastly: It looks like two of the remaining users with problems are both having issues with the patch taking a long time. I will follow up with you in private messages tomorrow (it's very late here an I need some sleep ;)) but I can give the following quick advice:
- The patching process solely relies on harddrive speed, so if you have a fast HD you should get through it pretty quick, but HDs with low RPMs may take a while longer.
- Any other usage of your computer that's likely to be repeatedly accessing the HD, or accessing large files on the HD will affect the speed of the patch somewhat. Similarly, anything that monitors disk access (Like antivirus software, for example) will also slow down the patch. We definitely recommend disabling your antivirus during patching.
- Disk fragmentation may also affect the patching as well. If you've got a fairly full HD, or you've been using your HD for a long time, it might be worth doing a disk defrag before patching.

We have had confirmed reports of the patch taking 3 hours for some users, but if its taking longer than 6 hours there may be another issue going on here.

Is it just me or do speed trees look different now? Something about the shadows, not sure if its intentional. Also the long lasting problem of speed trees looking blue in the fog seems to have gone..!!! What great impressions on my first load of my route in surveyor.. can anyone confirm?

Just noticed a problem here..
When I opened my route I noticed a few dashed/missing splines. So I went to CM.. but View Dependencies on my route isn't available...

Run an EDR and then firstly you will get the dependencies listed again and secondly you will get the faulty items listed.

Having replaced everything, I then attempted to apply the patch again, it took about 15 mins to half unpack then it went into limbo, ie, it just stayed that way. Because the patch only half unloaded I was once again left with a corrupted Trainz program, which I have now had to reload as above. The patch was probably corrupted during the download process, so I will have to reload it again at a later date, as I have pretty much exhausted this month's download quota :(

The patch is slooow. I cannot over-emphasize how slow it is. This is mostly due to the way it patches the builtin content ja files, which need to be unpacked and completely rebuilt. Unfortunately the progress bar also isn't a completely accurate indication of the patch progress. Your best bet is to start it at a time when you won't need your computer for about 12 hours, then just leave it alone.

Unless you've killed the process part way through the patcher should not corrupt your installation. If it fails for some reason it will log an error message and revert any partial changes.

Terry

Please! Would you guys take a look at fixing the horrific night lighting effects from locomotive headlights rendered by the game. Having a headlight light up the whole countryside is hardly realistic to say the least...
