Article: Trainz “the Next Era”

Tony, I join those expressing my appreciation for your decision to remove the DRM restrictions from the game. From the beginning, I expressed my feelings that Trainz and its marketing structure is "complicated." It is an amazing platform upon which amazing worlds can be built by everyone from "Contractors" to "DIYers." This is bound to result in a lot of grumbling every time you touch the code, even if it results in vast improvements. Good luck and Godspeed to N3V and the future of a most amazing simulation product.

BTW, thanks for offering TS12 at such a good price. I quickly added TS12 to my collection, even though I am satisfied with T:ANE!

I cant begin to tell you how much I appreciate Trainz, and your associates, the work you all do. I spend hours
everyday, in the sim,and observing the forum, trying to learn a bit more. A more interesting sim, or game, I have
yet to find. Thanks you for offering such a sim, game, and the forums and being forthcoming about the inner workings
of the development team. The whole thing is a form of therapy for me at least, a constructive escape,from the stresses of life...thanks again, and all the best to T:ane going forward, and of course Trainz in general.

Mr Hilliam,
Thank you very much for the information/upgrade etc.and making it possible for me being able to overcome the slow download problem.
As I was unable to be a kickstarter it is much appreciated that all who have ordered the box edition through SimulatorCentral.com.will be eligible for the replacement disc at a very reasonable cost. Include me on the list please as the wait will be worth it.
As expressed in earlier comments a big thank you for ALL at N3V, past and future.

Staff reductions are not unusual as we all know,but a restructuring of a company is rather more serious.So just to be clear is this a restructuring or only a staff reduction?

You all worked flat out across a wide front for over eighteen months. The core of TANE is ace, something to build on yet, especially with the level of co-operation you envisage. It may not be everything you wished for, but I for one thank you for opting for the game rather than just a product.

Good luck for the future.

Seconded. Already submitted a bug report on the kickstarter beta site not too long ago regarding the lack of self illuminated materials not working in T:ANE.

Squirrel didn't. Everyone who was involved in testing and GM approval did and should be ashamed of themselves.

Forget all the rubbish built-in for a moment. The tutorial route and trains are the first thing any newcomer (or reviewer, in this case) to Trainz is going to check out and somehow decades-old rollingstock and route design are supposed to make a good first impression?? This thing is so far down the publicity crapper it's gone from frustrating to just plain funny.

I told these clowns a million times and even offered professional assistance. It's like trying to sell a 2016 car with 1970s bumpers and a cracked windscreen.

For me the saddest part of this is the lossof those team members. Sorry to see them go. Best of luck for the future folk

Ah, another staple of the new release. Abusive posts blaming the testers. Testers point out the problems, but have no means of rectifying them.
 
Funny you say that, because on both the Centercode site and in the Bug Reports thread, not a single tester brought this up. BUT. Let's say we give all of them (you included) the benefit of the doubt, hey, maybe you all thought the TRS2004 content was just a placeholder which will be swapped out. Where does that leave us then? Oh right, N3V. Don't blame the reviewers or newcomers who "don't 'get' Trainz". Who cares if this new car has amazing VTEC and AYC and LSD and STM under the hood, if it's hideous then I'm not looking any further.

Poor sales? Hardly surprising.

Wow, said N3V was clueless if they brought the game out looking like this, but can't find the post.

No, don't give me the benefit of the doubt, cut my wages by half to reflect my poor performance. No, go further than that, remove all payments made to me for this task I have so horribly failed in. I'm lucky to have got away without sack-cloth and ashes.

That'll teach me eh? :)

Am I blaming the testers? Perhaps. Did any of aforementioned testers, including you, paid or otherwise, bring up this issue to N3V? This doesn't mean N3V is any less off the hook for allowing crap like this out the door:

but the point was your comment is invalid because nobody reported it in the first place, even though one would expect a game developer to have more common sense than to pack the same builtin content they've been using for the past 6 releases of Trainz. Seven months ago, they posted "first look" screenshots here. When comments pointed out what a huge injustice the ancient content was doing for the new engine, the defenders simply pulled out the "shut up it's a beta" card. Well guess what, it's not beta now is it? Why am I still seeing these things in my TANE?

Did I try to bring it to their attention? A dozen times yes. Did I try to help? I'm running a commercial design studio with 3 other friends and offered N3V professional help with their PR - multiple times in fact. Did they accept it? No. They were happy with letting their admin guy do the screenshots and promotional media. I guess it saved them a few bucks.
