Are trainz routes vetted?

No, RRSignal. YOU attempted to tie me to a post I did not quote or address. If I wanted to quote Rick's post, I would have. YOU took it upon yourself to do that for me.*

Perhaps instead of censorship some member would like to take the initiative to "review" some of these items on the DLS, and allow a member to decide whether to download them or not. It seems like alot of work to do so, however.

An excellent idea, thing is though that any 'honest' reviewer is going to get bashed because the review has criticised the work of some young up-and-comer. We are back to 'Wow - great effort' as the only politically acceptable statement lest some junior creators' feathers get ruffled. I see no practical way to grade/rate/comment on routes/locomotives/anythings that does not result in an honest commentator getting pilloried as an overbearing thug.

Sad, isn't it....

Well, that's a good point, but I would get around that issue by just posting a couple of screens, just to let potential downloaders see what they're getting into. It's a moot point in my opinion, as it would take constant work on the part of the reviewer due to the amount of content that's released every day. Perhaps it could be limited to route reviews only, but then I could see someone uploading ten's of routes just to slam the person who takes up the mantle of "reviewer". If someone had that much time, they could build quite a little reputation for themselves, maybe open a dedicated website and attract some advertising money and the like.

Of course, I don't know anyone pompous enough, snarky enough, and critical enough to pull it off!:o

You need 3 people to combine those talents required Ed.
Ricke's idea about the kidzone upwards isn't a bad one although you really need 2 tiers of rating to help people decide. 1 for the quality (or lack) and another for if your computer will run the route, and I'm not picking on laptop's, yet.
The size of the route is a major factor to what (comp) will run it to a satisfactory level of say 20 fps.

I think some of you have gone off the point of the thread.
How many people have downloaded any of the routes and sessions called Test for instance?
Do a search, you'll get plenty to choose from.
This is the kind of nonsense that needs to be screened out and removed from the DLS along with pointless cartoon style shapes.

You're the genius who 1. failed to quote your intended target and 2. start talking about "discouraging young members", a topic of the previous post.

Face it, you flew off handle for no reason, Sparky, as you are prone to do. And it was because of your own idiocy and no one elses', Sparky.

But, in order to prevent this from happening again, I suggest you learn to use the Reply with Quote button. Of course, again, I'm assuming you can even read.

Along with the OP, I think I'm the only other Trainz iPad user in this thread. Trainz on the iPad is a technical marvel for the platform, and great fun for a bit of retro-trainzing, but not so good for serious route creating (although I'm sure that there are some really good routes out there somewhere). The iPad version makes it very easy for users to upload a route and session to the DLS, and I supsect that a lot of users are uploading routes a) simply because they can, and/or b) because they want to save a backup of something they're working on. The problem in my opinion is that iPad routes show as TS12 on the DLS, and can be downloaded and used in TS12. Whilst this is a nice idea, I think that the use of the main DLS for iPad routes is flawed. I would love to be able to round-trip a route between TS12 and the iPad but as far as I'm aware this isn't currently possible (maybe N3V have plans for this?) so downloading an iPad route into TS12 is likely to be at best an interesting step back in time to the early days of Trainz, and the limited content set available, and at worst a complete waste of time and bandwidth. I understand that iPad routes do have a tag in the config that identifies them as such, so I would have thought it would be possible to either add Trainz iPad as a search filter, to be included or excluded in dls searches depending on your preference.

I don't have a problem with anyone of any age uploading anything of any quality to the DLS,although I would like to see some discipline applied to screenshots so that they do actually show the asset in question. I tend to be fairly selective about my downloads and will usually only get routes from the dls that are either from creators I trust, or where I've seen plenty of screenshots or good comments. The bonus is that this often picks up some great dependencies that I would not otherwise have found, particularly when the object name is in a foreign language or follows some obscure naming system that means something only to the original creator.
