Are they Building a Metro line in Venice?

Cologne, Germany, Amsterdam; what's next? Is has to be an engineering feat to tunnel under homes and businesses with wooden support beams in the first place, but in this soil? Wow.

Some years ago, a crazy politician running for mayor in Venice promised he would build a metro line, or a monorail (I don't remember exactly) if he won the election. He lost, and public transit in Venice will continue to use motorboats for a long time (they are the most expensive public transit service in Italy - unless you are a resident of Venice).
