Helicopters sitting on train tracks look downright silly. I tried placing a piece of track below the surface of the ground to place a chopper on but the landing gear sinks under the ground.

I tried the lifting turntable but don't like it because big red arrows hover near it in the Session mode and that looks silly. Hiding Junction Overlays does not get rid of these arrows floating in the air.

I found some Army Apache helicopters with animated rotors that I suspended up in the air over the train tracks approaching the Tehachapi airport in formation. The helicopters are still in the air like they are hovering.

There is a lot of stuff to discover at DS. Some of it works and other stuff doesn't.

I am pleased with the classic 1950's American cars (Chevys, Oldsmobiles, Buicks, Fords, Plymouth station wagons) and pickup trucks as well as the late 60's Chevy Cheyenne trucks and there a ton of them all over my route. I got rid of most of the foreign-looking vehicles and put "American iron" on them instead once I discovered these assets. A British Aston-Martin or Ford Cortina does not look right in a southwestern American desert full of wild cowboys and yokels.

I am going to hunt for some Corvettes and Harley motorcycles that actually work. I found some biker figures but now I need the bikes to match. I am going to make a scene where the lawmen pull over a motorcycle gang in a traffic stop.

You can use a section of invisible track for the helicopter to be placed on. There are some built-in and on the DLS; I like to use the 'invisible track bnsf50' asset as it is clearly visible in Surveyor.

Strange that you see the red arrows , i use also TS12 and in drivermode the red arrows are gone when using "hide junction overlays"
Even the two tools to turn the the turningtable.

I mostly use the inv.track from Vulcan .

The red arrows are there because it is a turntable and all turntables have them. They are invisible in driver until you put your mouse near them to manually raise or lower (rotate) it by clicking on them. Turntables, locks and heli pads have those red arrows. Vulcans range of heli pads and invisible track all work well together.

I briefly tested laying BNSF50 Invisastrack in the sky, and achieved a sharp takeoff, and gentle landings with airplanes ... I have yet to try out whily-birds, and I wonder do they need an elevator, and which helicopter is the easiest to master tracklaying with ?

Vulcans Heli pads are required for landing and take off. Lay invisible track at ground level first and then raise it into the air either by raising the spline point or use the gradient tool.

I've done a simalar manner on my A Forest Test route, only the Helipad is instead the airport. Works brilliantly for both landing and takeoff, as I found out when testing it with The Time Traveling Talon model. (try saying that 5x fast lol)

Hi Guys,

My newer helicopters do not need the lift table, the H key lifts them off or lands them. They also have the start engine function, read the config description on how to use them.

Try these:

Bell Jetranger Helicopter Startup Kuid2:60238:9761:1 (and some other variations)
Boeing AH_64D Apache Helicopter Startup Kuid2:60238:9734:1
Bell 412EP Helicopter Startup Kuid2:60238:9719:1

There are a number of models that have a helipad, with a lift table:

Oil Rig Kuid2:60238:26212:2

If you really want to test them out and other aircraft try the Aircraft Carrier USS CVN 68 Nimitz Kuid2:60238:38623:1. This one is a scenery object that allows the full aircraft carrier operations, launch, landing, lift table to get the aircraft from the lower deck and helicopter operations. In Surveyor click the ? on the model to get a popup screen explaining the operation.

There are a range of carrier based aircraft available, FA-18, F-14Tomcat, Harrier, E2D Hawkeye.

Lots of aircraft info in this thread:
