Anything special about XP SP3

Has anyone else found things working that wouldn't before after installing SP3

Since going from SP2 to SP3 on my XPHome I'm finding old Win95 games that would refuse to install & if they did would not play in any compatibility mode in XP are now loading & playing same as they did in win95 without any problems.

The only warning I got was that I needed at least Directx 2 for the game to work.

Window XP SP3 was a non-event for me. It installed without any problems and hasn't caused any problems subsequently (fingers crossed).

I just put two new PC's together (mine, and one for my mom). Installed SP3 on mine after getting everything else installed and hooking it up to the interwebs. No issues.

I've obtained the CD for SP3, installed XP on mom's PC, and SP3 right after it. Again, no issues. One point: I didn't need to install the mother board's USB2 drivers - apparently SP3 has them already.

SP3 comes with a pile of previous updates, patches, etc. There are still updates, however - seems they always find a new hole to plug.

dont install SP3,microsoft wants people to download because,10% programs will run slower,or now work, because microsoft wants people think that windows is slow, and upgrade to vista, trust me dont download

NYCBoy....WHAT?

No problems on my end--installed fine, XP Home and Pro(separate computers). It's actually resulting in my computers benchmarking FASTER due to what appears to be better multicore processor usage. I'm pretty happy with it so far.

Can you point to any reputable evidence to support those claims?

Well, my wife swears that her computer runs slower, and it screwed up my sound system so I get occasional loud screeching noises. Personally I wish I had ignored it.

How sure are you that SP3 is the cause? For example, could it have been caused by changing from AVG 7.5 to AVG 8?

Have you checked if a new version of the driver for the sound system is available?

Sorry if any of the above doesn't apply, only trying to help,

John

Thought I'd toss my two cents in here, too. I've been running XP Pro with SP3 for quite awhile, now and want to say, it has actually helped my whole system run a little better.
'Things' just seem to operate a bit smoother for me.
I recommend it highly.

I have no idea what that is. All I know is that I was having no trouble and then SP3 installed itself and the sound problems began immediately. My drivers were updated about six months ago, but I have not checked recently. One of these days when I am feeling bored I will troubleshoot it and see if I can find a fix or take it back to my dealer. The guy who built it is seven minutes away and for simple stuff I can usually leave the machine and pick it up rwo or three hours later.

SP3 hasn't affected any of the computers we have here that run XP either. I believe that SP3 was more for security issues than anything else. It shouldn't adversely affect Trainz either.

No problems with S3 either other than as I said earlier some things work now which wouldn't work with SP2

SP3 can be deleted/removed from add/remove programs if you want.

Just for the record, AVG is an anti-virus program. Many people find that converting from AVG V7.5 to AVG V8 slows down their computer significantly.
