Anyone running Trainz for Mac?

Hello all,

I have been bitten by the train bug and would like to expand my train experience to this train simulator. I have an iMac I bought in 2008. It is a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB of memory and an ATI graphics card with 256GB of memory. I know the specs are good enough to run the program but how well will it run? Is anyone running Trainz on their Mac of this generation? I won't be upgrading my iMac to anything newer anytime soon which is why I am asking now since my computer is fully maxed out.

Thanks...

I'm running it on a MacBook Pro 17 inch, core duo 2.16 with 2 GB of ram and ATI x1600 256 MB card.

I have to use windowed mode and applied Otto's SpeedTree fix to keep the trees from flailing around. It runs "decent" but a bit jerky on the built in routes. We don't have the option of disabling shadows, which is killing me right now, or editing the trainzoption.text yet to limit frame rates. Hopefully we will get that in a patch.

Haven't had it long so still tweaking around in it. If I could disable shadows I would be pretty happy with it on my old machine. Until then, rebuilding two of my older routes using Profig's trees and see what happens.

Yeas I am running Trainz for Mac on a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB ram and it runs well ... sometimes slows down a bit when I am using all my 25 locos at one time but hey what wouldn't.
And the Mac makes it look beaut!
God bless and enjoy!

Thanks for your responses. Another question I have is the add-on downloads be it freeware or pay ware . Are they compatible with Mac or is it not OS dependent and only version of the game dependent?

I think what makes this simulator look amazing is what is also scary about it. There is so much content to it especially outside of what comes with the base package that it is a little scary hoping it will all work with our existing computers.

Content isn't platform specific, what works in the Windows version works in the Mac version. The only problem you may have is fixing errors as there are no tools available for the Mac version.

If you like North American railroads, RRMods and JointedRail have quite a bit of freeware and payware addons that work error free. For trees, Profig has some excellent freeware that seems to be easier on the fremerates and , in my opinion, makes the built in SpeedTrees look like garbage.

No problem getting quality error free content.

Brand noob

I'm an absolute beginner. I just got Trainz for Mac and it's working fine.

Any suggestions on which Routes and Sessions to play?

Also, I've been looking for instructions on how to install stuff I've downloaded from the Download Station; I haven't found any. Where do I put the files?

And are they any layouts where the trains can be set to run themselves, where I can swoop around with the camera and enjoy the scenery and the hard work of others?

Thanks in advance for any tips. :D
