Anyone recognize the brand of petrol for these pumps?

G'day Dino

One source of info might be available from some of the old chaps in the Vintage or Veteran car clubs.

I once drove a 1938 Hupmobile as a wedding car for a friend and they had a photo shoot at that old servo.

Before the windows were boarded up you could see lots of interesting antique stuff inside.

Could have been any brand back in the 1950's (as well as COR, remember Esso, Amoco, Atlantic and Neptune?). I can find no photo's or info from that period, so there's no way to tell. Maybe if I hang around Pippy's (Speers Point Hotel) long enough I will find some old guy who remembers, but it will involve a lot of beer. :udrool:

The fact that the pump which is now blue/red was recently yellow/white (photo in post #14) indicates that the current blue/red scheme happened long after COR folded. I'm almost sure that 2 of the remaining pumps were Shell, and the other one was Ampol, but this was only the status in the last years of its operation.

H. Bond opened the business in the 1920's but according to the links at the end of this paragraph, William Davies constructed the art deco part (the front wall I presume) in the late 1930's. I guess that was an upgrade to the original service station.

Since the front wall is more or less the defining feature of this building, I'm taking its era as the 1930's.

I don't think I've ever researched an abandoned small business on the other side of the planet as much as I have these pumps. I hope this eventually gets a solid answer. Also a caption on one of those photos says "Used to be 4 pumps (from older photos)". Wonder if those older photos can be turned up.

Edit: Found a few, may have been posted already, but looks as if these pumps may not have even been branded:

A more recent one with 4 pumps, you can kind of make out the letters "BON" from the original lettering, presumably Bond for the original owner:

Unbelievable effort from everyone. I'm gonna move on and do the normal map and all that boring stuff now. If anything solid turns up by way of brand identification, I'll include it in the description. At the mo' it is described in terms of probabilities, i.e. probably Shell and then Ampol added later. Thanks and I hope it's been fun playing long-range detectives!
