Skype is an over-the-net video or IM chat program. If you have a webcam and a microphone of some sort you can talk directly to the person or you can use the program like a normal Instant Messager. I have Skype, though I haven't registered my profile on this yet. I'll have to do that.

I like it because I can use two ear pieces and a boom microphone, the sound quality is much better than a conventional phone, especially computer to computer.

It would be nice if someone would be so kind as to explain exactly how one inserts their Skype icon. Obviously some members have discovered how to do this but I have searched every avenue I can think of and found no instructions.

In your profile (UserCP) you can add your contact info; including ICQ handle, AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and Skype.

1) Click on "User CP"
2) Click on "Edit Profile"
3) Scroll down to the "Optional Information" Section
4) in the "Instant Messaging" sub-section find the Skype Option
5) Enter your Skype Username in the Text field to the RIGHT of the skype icon (

)
6) Scroll to the bottom of the Page
7) Click "Save Changes"
8) Jump up and down and shout "I DID IT!" (ok not really)

In any case, I followed your instructions exactly and now have a Skype icon. I do, however, now have a new and different problem.

I was so excited I followed the instruction on line #8 before I had a chance to read the final three words. Being quite heavy and residing in an older mobile home I am now typing with one finger, hanging onto the edge of my desk with the other hand and trying to raise my feet back up through the hole in the floor! :hehe:

Alright, I'm registered. My codename is diskontinue. Don't try calling me on the camera for a while though. As luck would have it, my computer no longer recognizes any of its USB ports so the camera is useless.

There is amother thread of users who use skype, do a forum search. Anyway, my id when I've reinstalled skype is wessexen. Bewarned, I have a typical British voice and my humor may not be everyones taste. ;-)
