Perusing a "RailSimulator" forum there was a discussing on solving the stuttering problem, someone suggested running the application in a window.

I tried this in TRS2009 and was able to run at 1680x1050, my monitor's highest resolution, with improved performance. It may be all in my head but the performance appeared much smoother in native and compatablity mode.

I am running a Nvidia GeForce 8600GT.

Even if it is all in my mind I am happy with the performance increase. Before I was running at 1024x768 to get a smooth performance.

Just a thought

Historically Trainz does not like windows, but I run it full screen at 1600 X 1200, and it seems smooth enough for me. Thanks for the tip though, I'm sure many will want to try it!:)

How big is/was your window? When I was experimenting with screen videos I ran Trainz in a window a bit larger than a CD case. I can't remember what resolution but I think it was 800 x 600. because the window was quite small the resolution was pretty good. I took videos of just part of that screen and I was able to get very good results. A thousand times better than I've seen on YouTube. I was going to write a tutorial about it but got side-tracked. I figured that it all had to do with the pressure placed on the video card having to work at high resolutions over very large areas. Trainz always seemed to work better in cab view for me because the passing scenery is actually in a very small window, whilst the remainer of the screen is filled with a stationary cab. Similar to Flight Simulator. Maybe I'm completely wrong!

No, I think you are correct, I find the same results in cab mode.

And

I always thought "native mode" had something to do with Indians, but I stand corrected!:o

I am running the monitor in 1400x900 for my desktop and ran a window at 1680x1050. Even running a 2004 asset, a V&T 4-4-0 locomotive, which won't show up in TRS 2009 the frame performance was better.

I dunno, I find I get worse FPS in cab, because you're looking straight down the line towards more than one baseboard and much more scenery than if you're outside looking at the side of the train for example

...I posted this a couple of days ago...

 It seams to me that the closer you stay to in-cab, the smoother the performance...being after all a "train-simulator."

But just imagine staying in the cab for a whole route...
