Any difference between Trainz A New Era or Trainz 2019 Trains and Sessions/Routes?

I understand there are new interesting features although, but I am going to wait before buying. So those incredible shot I see in the screenshot forum comes from specific setting we can also do in TANE if I understand well.
Regards!

Not true. The shots I show are a TANE route imported to TRS19. It does not use any of the new features such as 'TurfFX' and more I have not begun to explore. The screen shots were to show you what a TANE Route looked like in TRS19. Sorry if that mislead you there.

With the new features in TRS19, and using Assets that was made for the new version, it has a much higher detail as this post shows and explains what it take to take a TANE Route and upgrade it to TRS19 realism. https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?150943-My-experience-upgrading-my-existing-T-ANE-route-to-TRS19-standards

So I would say that if a Route was created in TANE, then there is no real reason to run it in TRS19 as far a graphic quality. But a Route made for TRS19, using the new TRS19 Assets (which won't run in TANE as far as I know), is the reason to have TRS19.

Just like to add to the discussion: if you try and download something that is set for TRS19 into TANE
it's not going to let you do it because it's an up version from TANE but you can always download something from TANE right into TRS19 on your content manager because your a version higher if that makes sense.... 😎

As an example of the same TANE created route loaded into and displayed in both TANE and TRS19 consider the following two screenshots. They were made from as close to the same position in both programs as I could manage.

The performance settings were the same in both. The environment settings (including the fog density) were the same in both. The time of day (about 06:20) was the same in both.

Legacy Routes look better in TANE than TRS2019.

Legacy grass splines look truly dreadful. No, I am not going to rebuild all the legacy routes with new TurfFX and PBR.

Legacy speedtrees look better in TANE.

TRS2019 and that is the trees good side.

My first experience in Trainz was with TANE. I was fortunate enough to find a list of DLS routes that worked great with TANE so I downloaded a bunch.
These routes have worked very well for me but I am unsure of their value if imported into TRS2019. Is there a list of routes that look good in TRS2019 at this point? Or do I need to wait for their development?

To see some of the new effects check out philskene videos on youtube.. Here is one example. I list this video only because I'm familiar with the before and after... I'm sure there are other routes to checkout too.

From the description:
"Originally for "Trainz Model Railroad 2017". Updated for TRS19, with the new TRS19 track, the new PBR 3D textures and TurfFX grasses."

In my opinion legacy billboard trees and grass always looked terrible in any version of Trainz. TANE Speedtrees (Speedtrees v6 I believe) look better that TS12 Speedtrees (v5 I believe). For my last TANE created layout I used only v6 Speedtrees and very few billboard grasses (and only where no other suitable substitute could be found). When loaded into TRS19 that layout (shown in the two screenshots in my post above) looked significantly better than it does in TANE.

I am currently converting an old TRS2006 layout of mine to TRS19 (but without the special textures and layers effects as I have yet to master them) by updating the assets, where possible, with those using TS12 and TANE builds. The improvement is noticeable and significantly so (in my opinion).

A great deal does depend on the assets that have been chosen by the layout creator. Using TRS2006 era billboard vegetation is really not going to cut it any more in TANE and TRS19. It has taken quite a while for the number of TANE quality assets to reach a "useful" number. A quick search of the DLS revealed the number of "Flora" assets with TANE builds (3.9 to 4.5) has now reached 1,288 - but that of course does not mean that they are all "high quality" assets. Likewise scenery assets without decent LOD are going to be a roadblock for some time to come until more creators get on board.

So both TANE and TRS19 assets still have a long way to go but that was always expected. It takes a while for the content creators to catch up with the developers and, unfortunately, the more complex the minimum requirements for assets are the longer that process takes.

My opinions only.

Speedtrees look awful in TRS2019.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was wondering for....what a huge difference in that specific case !

P.S. I will certainly grab a copy of TRS2019 in the future, but not now.

Like a lot of things it depends on which assets you are looking at and how they were created.

Two closeup views of the same SpeedTree - TANE (left) and TRS19 (right). Which looks better?
Shadows in TRS19 are darker and sharper, the trunk and leaves in TRS19 have better resolution and colour. Both images made on the same computer.

Would it be possible to take a T:ANE route, say the Pennsylvania and Berwind by Approach Medium, and without actually purchasing T:ANE and loading it up import it into TRS2019?

Yes. The route loads fine into TRS2019. The only issue you will have is with the TRC crossings due to an issue with the TRC components that need an update, but everything else loads fine. The route runs pretty well too and looks pretty good in there.

I used the route a part of another mega merger at one point, but lost that in a system crash.

Without being 100% confident, I would say yes. (it depends on the individual assets used in the older route and not on the route itself)

I have not had any problem importing TANE routes and sessions into TRS19.

The route I am currently working on started in TRS2006 about 16 years ago. Two years ago I successfully imported it into TANE but had to replace some assets that were being reported as "faulty". I updated many other assets because, after all those years, they really looked "tired". I also replaced all the trees with SpeedTrees which did not exist back in TRS2006.

I then imported it into TRS19 and replaced all the track with procedural track and made many other changes including another 88km of track,
