Another dumb question - can't change switch/junction..

Ok experts...

I downloaded a user created route "Fall In the Heartland" - when I get to the switch in map view I see the green and red switch arrows, when I hover over the switch it flashes but won't let me change the switch direction. While in the cab I have tried the J or CTRL J but to no luck.

What am I doing wrong? I downloaded the game from the Auran website so I never got an instruction manual. Thank you so much for the help!

Assuming you're not in AI, one possiblity is your loco is too close to the points. Try switching when your 2 loco lengths from the switch.

Because the route has a build version of 3.3 I tested it with TS2010. The junctions only work right in compatibility mode, which means they won't work in TS12.

With TS12 I recommend only downloading routes or sessions with a minimum build of 3.5.

I haven't checked, but my guess would be that the lever used is faulty. Not totally busted if it works in Comp mode, but bad enough that it won't work in TS10 native or TS12. Do the levers appear, or just the red-green arrows? Their absence will confirm my hunch.

Other than faulty content there is absolutely no reason why a 3.3 route won't run perfectly well in TS12...

That means either you don't have the lever -or - the lever is faulty. Locate the route in CM and try a couple of things. Right-Click the route, select View Dependencies and see if anything is reported missing or faulty. If 'Yes' that's probably the issue. If there is faulty content post back the error message if the fix isn't obvious...

Alright, went through the dependencies and found a high left, high right, low left and low right switches that had faults when originally downloaded. This is the error message:

Warning: This asset uses an obsolete trainz-build number. Trainz-build numbers below 2.7 are no longer supported.

Looking at your join date and the fact you only show 1 version of Trainz on your track siding thingy I can safely assume a lack of knowledge necessary to fix the broken assets. I been playing Trainz for 2 years and have yet to attempt to fix a faulty asset.

As a newbie with TS12 I shall reiterate my earlier statement "only download routes and sessions with a build of 3.5 or higher", at least until you learn how to fix faulty assets.

There are plenty of TS12 routes available which will work without any fuss.

In Content Managers search box select:

Category = Route
Minimum Build Version = 3.5

I have downloaded a few routes for TS12 myself. If you wish I can perhaps even recommend a route or few.
Just let me know what kind of Railway you wish to run your trains on? Big routes, small routes? Do you have a killer fast rig or what?

I don't wanna see someone new to this game get bogged down fixing content created for an earlier version of the game.

Fixing these kinds of things is not a diffcult task. At first the process may seem daunting and a bit overwhelming, but the more you do this, the easier it gets. If you look at the errors, it says that the chrome is missing. It may well be missing and can either be replaced, by finding the same texture elsewhere, or by creating a chrome texture and putting in. Or the texture may be there, and needs to be fixed using some third-party tools such as those by Peter V. Peter's tools (PEVs Tools) are located on his website. The PM2IM and Textures2TGA are the most commonly used programs for this type of problem.

Now if you still can't get these fixed, the offending switchstands can easily be replaced.

Open up the route in Surveyor. Do a save-as to create a working copy of it.
Go into trackside tools and pick new switchstands that you like.
Go into the Replace Asset tool (found under the file menu).
Drag in the stand you want to replace with, and the one to be replaced.

Replace the asset and viola, you're good to go.

Here's the link to the magic tools by Peter.
