Animated assets & sounds

I just recently moved from 2019 to 2022. One thing that I found disappointing is that animated assets, such as the wood choppers/sawers, JCB loaders, etc., plus the ambient sounds, do not play in surveyor mode and appear to only work when in driver mode. Can be awkward when trying to work out where to best place animated items correctly. Is there some way around this? I noticed that someone had raised this issue previously, but there are no replies. Many thanks. Norm

It will depend on which version of TRS19 you are moving from.

The Cause:
TRS19PE has the UDS feature which gives you the option of stopping all animations and sounds when in Surveyor mode. This feature is also found in TRS22 (both versions). TRS19 (standard) did not have this feature.

Typically, when you use the UDS to switch from Driver to Surveyor, all the consists will be in their current positions and obeying their current orders or actions (e.g. moving, loading, unloading, stationary) at the instant you made the switch. This means that any moving consists will continue moving in Surveyor and would, eventually, derail or collide with other consists, the end of track, etc. To prevent this all movement, including animations and sounds, is automatically halted when you switch from Driver to Surveyor via the UDS.

In TRS19 (standard) the only way you could switch from Driver to Surveyor was by halting and exiting Driver, starting Surveyor and reloading the session from the very start. Moving consists is not a problem.

The Solution:
You can start animated assets moving and sounds playing in Surveyor by opening the Tools Menu from the top menu bar and unchecking the Pause option. But be aware that if you have entered Surveyor directly from Driver via the UDS then any consists that were moving in Driver will immediately start moving in Surveyor and the result will, eventually, be a disaster. If you have started Surveyor directly from the start screen then this will not be a problem.

See the Trainz Wiki at How_to_Use_the_UDS_Interface for more details.
