An odd error

Yesterday when I launched the game I got an error pop up which I didn't really pay any attention to. I just cancelled the error and restarted the game. One of the effect of doing so was that when I then selected the route option the screen went black resulting my having to restart the pc.
Ive just come to check something I was working on and again this error came up (so I wrote it down this time). When I went into the route option and selected my route - which is a plain simple test board. I noticed a tree embedded in a container ship I had on the board. I have not used any sort of scenery - apart from the buildings Im working with so this came as a bit of a surprise.
Any way the error reads as follows:

Your computer hardware and or software is unable to communicate correctly with Trainz.
Ensure you have:
-installed Directx9
-installed the latest drivers for your video card. (ie at www.nvidia.com or www.ati.com)
-Tried both OpenGL and DirectX settings (Trainz Launcher->Configure Trainz-> Display Settings)

If the above does not work, please consult your manual or visit technical support at http://www.auran.com.trainz/technical_support.html

Now Im more than a little computer savvy - Ive been playing around with them since 1981 and have a degree in them so I know my pc is more than up to running this and just about any game on the current market. So I am wondering why this error should try telling me otherwise. Particularly since Its never shown this error before and Ive been running ts12 now for a little while. Any thoughts?

My guess is that one or more of the settings in the Trainz Options box has changed. This happens frequently if Trainz crashes.

There is a known apparently unsolvable problem with Win7 x64 and if I remember Vista x64 where the display driver drops out then recovers affecting OpenGL applications and games. Sometimes you get a popup from the OS sometimes you don't. One of those doesn't affect everyone type problems that is random in nature.
If you then launch Trainz after such an occurrence it sometimes comes up with that message, rebooting and all is well, no solution and not specifically related to Nvidia or ATI / AMD. if it was that, there should be an error or warning in event viewer to that effect.
General consensus amongst gamers is it's a Microsoft problem relating to OpenGL, which for Trainz is needed for content manager, however I haven't seen it at all yet with the latest set of Nvidia drivers.

I have received this error on occasion as well and not just from Trainz. I found that updating to the latest video drivers for my video card helped. I have the ATI 6950.

Thanks folk. I think I have actually narrowed it down a little. Since I had problems earlier last week regarding odd behaviour with windows updates, I decided to manually do the updates instead of let the system do it. Im slowly working through the updates and will see what happens when they are complete. It was an issue with one of five updates that caused me problems in the first place and I am 99% certain that was to do with a graphic update. I will keep you posted.
