An idea for content creators

If this has been brought up before I apologize - I did some forum searching and came up empty.

I built a route which has a ski resort, and the centerpiece is cyberstorm's gondola system (stations, cables, gondola cars, pylons, etc - very well done - you can click on a gondola car and ride inside). After constructing mountainous terrain and installing the gondola system, I added chairlift splines, skier and snowboarder objects, groomers, snow fences, and appropriate ski resort buildings (some of which can be seen in "Winter in the Alps"), others from the DLS. Finally I used invisible track to designate ski runs since I could control the gradient, and by repetitively moving the splines points side to side, then smoothing, I could make realistic ski runs. Add trees, texturing with snow and rock, and you have a ski resort. In my case the ski village is accessed by rail, with the lowest of three gondola stations adjacent to the railway station.

Some of you may see where this is going. If you can have train vehicles disguised as driveable boats, buses, and airplanes, why not a train vehicle disguised as a skier or snowboarder? Then using invisible track, invisible portals placed at the top and bottom of the lifts, invisible switches and signals, you could have the skiers exit the portal at the top of a chairlift, ski down, and enter a portal at the bottom of the chairlift. The cab view would be the same for both skiers and snowboarders: a view of the terrain looking out their goggles. I guess to drive them yourself, you would be limited to DCC mode. So my question is whether this is theoretically possible to be done by someone with the correct skills (and motivation).

Yes I know its Trainz, not Boatz, Busez or Planez, so I expect some flack for suggesting Skierz or Boardrz. But you could have a route with a functional ski resort and I am a proponent of creatively pushing software beyond it's original intent.

No, the thing I love most about Trainz is that it can be a world simulator. And, evidently, there are lots of folks who think about the possibilities apart from trains.

I don't know much about portals but I don't see how any of that wouldn't be possible. I would think you could also run the skiiers inside of a mountain, underground, sort of like the other side of an escalator and just use Drive To commands or such to produce an endless supply.

If you use Cyberstorm's Drivable Superadaptor <kuid2:78193:950:1> you can make any scenery object including people into a 'locomotive' which you can place on invisible track and have both the internal and tracking cameras available.

I have done this with a number of objects such as different people (railway worker, passenger, man leaning on a gate etc) and with buildings located in positions where I wish to see the view.

Thanks to all for the suggestions

RRSignal - I like your idea of recirculating skiers/boarders underground to bring them back to the top - much simpler then using portals.

To johnwhelan and Scottish - your suggestion is all new to me - I will look into it.

There is a drivable Hang Glider as well as several drivable people, you could put "Spacer" to separate them.

All you need to do is create seated passengers on ski lift chairs, and make them into a loco

In the Superadapter there is a readme file with the instructions of how to set it up (open it for edit in explorer in CMP to view the readme file). The process is very simple and is based on simply referencing the kuid you want to use as an alias in the Superadapter. Don't forget to clone the Superadapter first and modify the clone.

Got it done

I now have a drivable snowboarder thanks to cyberstorm's Drivable Superadaptor and those who responded to this thread. The readme file has instructions as Scottish said. The readme file also shows how to change the interior and sound from the usual locomotive, but of course cyberstorm would have no idea of the intended use, so could not suggest replacements.

If anyone has suggestions for interior and sound (or how about no sound which would be ok too) appropriate to a drivable skier or snowboarder, let me know. I'll also start looking on the DLS and experimenting.

Thanks for all the help you have given me.

Is it necessary to have a fully modeled skier or boarder? If this is an asset that you intend to be seen from a distance only, I could make some 2D enthusiasts for you. They would be visible from the side only, not the front. I only offer because I don't know how detailed you want this to be, how close, and how many instances of the model you would need to be seen going downhill.

Re question from euphod

Built into TS2010 are several skiers and snowboarder people objects, one of which I made driveable. They can't really be seen from much distance anyway. But thanks for the offer to create some.

kuid:169585:55006 'invisible' is an invisible interior which still has an internal camera and is on the DLS.
kuid:122285:301 'silent enginesound' is built-in in 2010.
kuid:2512:54002 'silent horn' is built-in in 2010.

thanks for the info Scottish

Using the suggestions that Scottish made above, I now have a drivable skier and snowboarder with an invisible interior and no engine or horn sounds. I also had to rotate the skier 90 degrees, but not the snowboarder, but cyberstorm's readme file includes instructions for doing this.

But I had to do one more thing not mentioned in the readme file: How to get rid of the jointed rail sound. I looked at the config file of a driveable boat that had no rail sound, and found this line, copied and pasted it into my drivable skier and snowboard config files:

disable-extra-track-sounds 1

And it did the trick - no track sounds.

For anyone who wants to do this, here are the two assets I used:

People Swiss Skier 2, KUID:-1:101364
People Snowboarder, KUID:-1:101358

Both built into TS2010 and I believe go back to TRS2006.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread.
