An easy (though slightly time consuming ) way to make ramps with terrain.

I have been developing a route called "Moose county Railway" which i plan to upload to the DLS in Mid 2011 (there may be a beta at some point). And i ran into a distinct problem, part of the route for passenger trains goes into a subway. This presented an issue when i tried to get the rails down a ram 15 metres to where the tunnel mouth would be.

I then (not sure where it came from) found the solution. What i did was mover to the position where i wished to place the ramp (this ramp goes downwards intyo a trough for those that are confused, although this method would work if you were creating a regular ramp) and slowluy lowered the land by 0.5m per square (using the set height tool). you would think that this would make a bumpy ramp but no! The ramp is completly smooth! Also by varying the height dropped/gained per square you can change the gradient.

0.5m is admitadly quite steep however the only trains that will go up/down it are electrically powered (3rd rail) metro north stock.

This method is slightly hard to explain but i will post a few screenshots and create a small quide in the next few days.

Wouldn't the "Smooth Spline Height" tool work much easier? Under advanced then press "S" on the key bored. Although it might make the ramp a bit wide. Just set the spine point at one end of the track at the desired depth and the other at the starting height. The press S and click on that spine.

No it levels the land to the track. Should save you a whole butt load of time. It just tends to level a wide area that for what your doing might not work. So wall or embankment spines might be needed.
