An Attempt at My First Route

Hi gang,

Well, after the power supply took a crap on my big rig, I decided to install TRS2009 on my laptop. Seems to work fine. So, I am attempting a ficticious route using track arrangements from the eastern US coal routes of the mid to late 1800s.

I have created hand made displacement maps for the route which I created using Photoshop. Below you will find the fruits of my labors. The images are screenshots of the first section of the route which is 2 x 6 boards in area.Let me know what you think of what I have done so far.

Hand made displacement maps is a great idea ! Keep it going.:D

History is one of my favorite studes, especially from 1800 (the Canal Period) to the 1930's and 1950's.

Yeah ... If I could only "Git Er' Done" !

Tonight I am finishing laying BNSF Invisatrack-Aerial Flyways, @ +0.10m, and 150' distant mainline tracks, thoughout my route.

PM me for questions about History and RR's, turnouts, curves and gradients.

Displacement maps are great tools to use--- my layout is base on one of these -- good luck, have fun, and keep at it!!

Thanks Ish for the encouragement. Wow, you have a lot of assets on the DLS. I will have to take a long look at them.

That's a great effort. Looks really promising. I use displacement maps all the time.

Regards

It appears you have made some fine terrain to lay track on, a very good example of what can achieved with the displacement maps. Good show!

Thanks Euphod. I am finding that one can get quite carried away and loose the scale of the terrain from the urge to create faster. I have created 43 displacement maps so far, and the terrain for the last 20 or so boards has been not quite as tight as the first set. Which tends to spend the terrain out a bit and the Pennsylvania mountains terrain I have tried to create has lost some character as a result.

Back to the drawing board.
