almost ready to give up on TRAINZ - is there hope ???

Congratulations on the birth of your Trainz TS2010 install!

These warnings are normal and the very long time updating the database is part of the normalness of Trainz. :)

Here are some tips you may find useful now that your Trainz is installed:

* Back up your install, and especially your Userdata folder frequently. This is where all your downloads will reside as well as any routes you create.

* At the Launcher, go to the Options and then Developer tab and check the Show database process windows checkbox. Use these to confirm when it is safe to shutdown or restart your computer. When these disappear from the taskbar, it is safe to perform those actions.

* With this you should be all set. Have fun!

John
Thanks, John, for the reassurance - I felt uneasy about the notice that certain 'kuid' entities were found not matching with expectations during the patching process. I have been making a complete backup of each patched incarnation on a separate hard drive as the patching has progressed. Thanks for pointing out the, "Show database process" checkbox - I saw this in my looking, but had no idea what it was/is actually for. Still have 2 more patches to install, but my confidence is renewed. cs

You're welcome. That's what we're here for. We commiserate, help, and discuss all the great things about Trainz and trains. :)

The Show database process checkbox I think is for the geeks amongst us, but they sure are helpful to find out when the program is done before we do anything else.

I was going to mention the database repair, but I forgot. I'm glad Shane chimed in on that one.

You would need to open Content Manager in order to do a quick database repair.

As for your enter key issue, you can either use compatibility mode in your browser, or using Forum Actions > General Settings then change the Editor format.

Shane

Thanks, Shane. I looked inside the Content Manager and figured out how to run a quick database repair. I assume that sometimes things will be, "....found in a new location...." and that this is no cause for alarm.

And, following your instructions, I am again happy with my 'Enter' key.

Happy to report that, with everyone's help/advice/encouragement, my TS2010 install is now successfully patched all the way back up to build 49933. Now I'm off to see if I can figure out how to get my Aerotrain inside the sim and running somewhere.

Peace,

cs

I can help you with that as well.

You should have a .exe file to install the Aerotrain. Run this, entering the serial number you have been given for that pack and select the folder where you installed Trainz to at the appropriate points.

When this is done, click Options on the Launcher. Enter the serial number for the pack, then click the Add key followed by the OK button. Trainz will automatically do a database update then you should be able to use the train in-game.

Shane

Update: SUCCESS !!!
