Almost ready for the off!

In training
Ok, so I've been browsing the forum and other sites for the past month to try and get a head start. My new laptop is finally here and tonight (technical specs etc allowing) will be my maiden journey into real trainzing.

I will no doubt have a stupid amount of questions, but here are the main two I have before I start.

1. Is it easy to replace track (ie if I start with a basic one that looks rubbish later can I simply 'swap' track?)

2. Double track bridges - in terms of track direction, how do these work (is the track on the bridge two-way or is it a case of adding directional markers?)

Plus, any other things I need to know in order to avoid re-doing stuff when I discover the 'right way' later on?

Welcome to Trainz world! To answer your questions:
1. No, you can't "swap Track", exept for deleting all the track and putting new down.
2. If you mean in the sense of direction for AI drivers to follow, then it's a case of adding directional markers.
Happy Trainzing!

Great - I'll be sure to spend time picking the right track at the outset then!

A minor additional question: Is there a special setting for designing 00 guage model railway, or is it all done in 'scaling'?

I'm not sure that your answer to 1. is correct. I haven't tried it, but I believe that you can swap tracks using Trainzmap and if you're using 2004, I believe that you can swap it with TrainzObjectz. Since I haven't actually done it myself, maybe someone can verify this or tell me I'm all wet, but I seem to recall seeing this topic on the forum before. You might want to try doing a search and see what you find.

It would certainly help us, if you can let us know which version of Trainz you are using. TS2009 has a very good asset replacer tool, which will let you swap an object (track, or anything else) for another object (another track, or anything else).

Mike is right, the answer is YES, you can easily swap out all your track at once using TrainzMap. One click and it's done.
Let me say this also, TrainzMap will swap out all the same kind of track at one time. If you have three types of track you'll have to swap three times.

Problem is that the asset replacement tool in TS2009 will not replace double track.
