All Manner of Trains -- Australian Railways in 1962.

I knew I'd heard the name somewhere. Then I went through my train video collection, and found it in a video combined with other articles from the ABC. Thanks for linking this so I can watch it without having to go through the whole video!

The video is called 'All Australian Trains" and contains the following articles/motion pictures:

The Railway
Shades of Puffing Billy
Journey of a Nation
On Time
The Ghan to Alice
All Manner Of Trains
A Steam Train Passes

It goes for almost 2h 30min!

It's a bit boring to watch end-to-end, but it's great to be able to see them separately on Youtube.

Even though it was a government propaganda film, the many views of Aussie trains of the time still make this an absolute treat to watch. Most interesting is the images of less well-known railways, especially industrial lines like the Victorian coal railway and the old Mount Lyell Abt rack line in Tasmania (the later now a tourist line - the West Coast Wilderness Railway).

Also it was great to see a film of Australia's railways actually showing railways from every state, including Tasmania and WA (seeing the old loco-hauled Australind especially was a real highlight for me :D).

Anyway, thanks for finding this! :D

OMG just watched this great piece of rail history. I was amazed at the array of different rollingstock shown in this short 36 minute film. Certainly I remember as a small kid listening to the last of the steam and the start of the diesel traffic running past my parents home on the north coast line near Maryborough Queensland. I was amazed at the upgrade to the Mt Isa Line a unique opportunity that was missed to upgrade the line to standard gauge when the rebuild occurred.
