AI switch derailment issue

I'm having a problem with a switch in a downloaded rout, GFisher's Morris and Sussex. there is one junction where the point is set correctly, the AI leaves as ordered, but when the next to last car in the train crosses the junction, the AI switches the point and derails the train. It doesn't matter if I set the switch before leaving or just send the train on it's own, every time that car hits the switch it changes and derails.

I can't remember the exact switcg, it an older style. It only happens at this one junction.

I used to have this issue at one particular spot as well. Got me so pissed I threw everything I could at it at once - path rule, autodrive to trackmark, junction set rule + lock. Never bothered me again.

This has been around for a while. I found by setting the switch in Surveyor the way you most likely used was one way of beating it. I found it usually happened with very long consists more often. It also seems to happen only on downloaded routes. Never had it happen on one I built myself.
One that really drove me mad was where a coal train had to cross a complicated yard in EK3, to get to the power station. The only way I got around it was to redirect the train before it entered the yard itself.
Cheers,
Mike

I'll try those things out. It wasn't even a long train, less than 10 cars. .

At first I thought it may have been because I swapped out all the track so I tried a few different tracks, but still the same problem. I even deleted and reinstalled with the original track and it still happened.

Thanks for the replies.

I have had this problem since 04 ! It depends on the type of car you are using. Sometimes just turning around the last car solves this problem, but only on that particular consist. In general, it happens because the program is made to switch back the set of points after the last car passes over it. It is a silly thing, and I have made notes on this many times only to fall in deaf ears

I've found one fix so far. If I manually set the switch in the desired direction before giving the train the order to drive through it, it doesn't derail. If I leave the switch in the "wrong" position and let the AI throw it upon receiving the command it derails the train.

I am going to make it more complicated: You set everything and command the AI to do the runs. No problem. Save the session and come back tomorrow to it. The same train goes over the switch.. and derails. No matter what position the switch was.

Hmm, another thing to try is to make the influence radius of the switch larger. You can find this in surveyor the track flyout, section trackmark/triggers. Click the advanced button and there you can set or read the trigger radius for individual trackmarks, triggers and switches. The default is 20meters, so make it larger and see if that helps. It works by setting a radius and then click on the switch, trackmark or trigger in question.

Sorry to tell: That does not do it. I tried years ago. If it works well on the first session, why not in the subsequent ones?

Probably because you need to set it again in each session you newly create. I remember something like this on a very small shunting puzzle like showpiece from Lord Claud-Hamilton years ago. When you created a session for it you needed to set the switch radius to 1 meter again for all switches because it wasn't saved in the route, but in the session.
