Ai speed on twisty track

Is there any way to make the Ai in ts2009 to just follow the speed limits and not to be concerned with very sharp turns?

I'm asking this because I have laid track that a bus will follow. I have set speed limits and have invisible signals along the track

Any ideas?

It maybe not so much the twisting road, but the location of intersections that require slower speeds. The AI drivers will drive under the speed limit posted if there are slower speeds ahead. This is to allow for stopping time. In the old days, the AI would whip along then jam on the brakes, creating an unrealistic ride.

Ok too bad as this is exactly what I'm after :o
Is there any way to make (in my case) the bus, to slow down later?

Hi John and Everybody.
Sorry I did not come in on the thread when you were talking about this the other week but I was tied up doing other things with the computer and I did not wish to interrupt that.

I have been attempting to build a bus route using invisible track over a road spline for some time on and off. The problem comes when you try to insert switches for road junctions. The bus just tears around the corner of the junction . Inserting speed limits just before the junctions seem to make no difference for whatever reason that I have been unable to figure out.

All I have been able to achieve up to now is a bus route with no junctions which is a circular tour from the station down into the town and then back up to the station. Inserting speed limits on this circuit seems to work , although the bus does slow down some way before the speed limit is encountered. However, it is reasonably realistic using the Mercedes 1950s- 60s era bus that is available on the download station. I cannot think of its real title is at the moment but it is a good model with internal passenger views.

All I want to do is get off the A1 train I have been riding on as a passenger at the station and then catch the bus into the town as you would in real life. From inside the bus it looks pretty good but I am finding you have to keep the speed limits no higher than 15 to 20 mph or it seems that you are absolutely tearing along.

I know this isn't properly much help but it is just my experience in trying to do similar things to yourself
All the Best

Hi Everybody.
I have been messing about with the bus route since I saw the thread earlier on. I've tried resetting the speed limits and adding a few before bends and at the start of straight roads etc. I have had some limited success but with 2010 as John said the consists slowdown well before the start of the speed limit and it's the same with the bus route.

However, it does seem to run a bit better in the countryside between the station and town but I have had to put a general 10 mph limit on the bus as it journeys through the town if it is not to look very unrealistic going around tight corners and at junctions. These changes seem to speed up the complete circular route by a few minutes the problem was then that the bus arrived back at the station and left again just before the train arrived.

Now that's what I call reality

Could you not put an invisible speed sign with the faster speed right in front of the slower one, maybe 10 metres or so - the train (bus) should only then react to the slower speed limit after it has passed the faster one.

So you'd have

Normal Fast Speed Sign
Road
Invisible Fast Speed Sign
Slow Speed Sign
Junction/Corner

Never tried it, so don't know if it'd work, but can't see why not. Unless the trains read ahead past the first speed sign they come across.

so sad that it is so difficult getting this to work... It would be a nice addition to a route with buses running around your route:D

My problem is that my stops are too close to each other. Is there any way to manipulate the Ai to slow down later before a stop or a speed change?

Nope. Didn't work. The Ai reads past speed signs with the same or higher speeds.:hehe: Tried to put a million signs in front of the slow one but to no effect:p

The only thing that I have discovered that works is when pull a little trick on the Ai:

This only works driving with the autopilot command so you can make stops at trackmarks. You have to make a junction leading in to your corner or stop. Then you make an automated junction switch with the help of "Check trackside" and "Set junction". The distance you need the switch to be made depends on the speed. The track leading past the stop/ corner have to be long and clear from any obstacles. You can also make a loop leading back the other way.
Signals are only making trouble so skip them! To make it look realistic you put the faster speed sign right in front of the slower one like you suggested TheStoon

It actually works very well but with a more complicated route with intersections etc it will be quite messy:eek:
