AI Only Does Restricted Speed?

I've just ran a session on my route. The AI train only does about 18MPH, max. There are no signals, and I'm assuming that's what the problem is. If so, it's total BS. Do I HAVE To add signals for it to work?

Hi TrainMan,

If you look on the front of the TRS box it says 'Simulator'.
A Real Life train driver on a track without any signals will drive VERY cautiously, so the AI drivers do the same thing.
What happens in TRS is points levers with out any signals are treated as though there is a signal at caution which means the AI drivers only drive at half the current speed limit.

If for some reason you really need a layout without any visible signals ( Train order working or modern trains with in cab signalling ) look on the Download Station for

Signal Thingy Right Kuid 93677:1400
Signal Thingy Left Kuid 93677:1402

These are signals that are only visible in Surveyor but the AI drivers still obey them in a session.
They are also very useful where TRS is having problems with the signalling, put a Signal Thingy immediately after a visible signal quite often sorts out a headache for the layout designer.

One other thing, if you still have trouble check the config.txt for that locomotive. Some small locomotives only have a low maximum speed.

I haven't tried any invisible signals, but I'm going to try them. They may solve some of my session problems.

Like tramways where close-running of trams is needed. Crich, for example, has no signals to speak of, but if you modelled it in TRS you'd need to use them along with triggers to work the tracks and stop the AI running into each other.

Actually, TRS2006 has invisible signals by default. They're blue, pointy on one side, and the flat side is like a traffic light.

I had '04 before '06 though - this is where they came from.

There is a whole range of invisible speed signs as well, and on top of that you can define a max speed for each vehicle by adding Bloodnok's maxpermittedspeed rule (see my tram for an example).

I've been using the Invisible Signals to control Over-the-road trucks and trailer driving down a highway.

Yay my signals are working, over 106,000 downloaded in the past two years. I'm so proud of those little guys. :) -cwhitedog
