For two weeks.:p

Going on a long rail journey to see my sister at Cloncurry in Western QLD. Gotta get up about 5am, and out the door by 7am.

Train (Sunlander) leaves Roma Street at 8:55am, first stop Townsville following morning. Stay in a backpackers hotel then leave at about lunchtime Thursday on another train (Inlander). Arrive into Cloncurry 5am on Friday morning. Four day trip, coming back isn't as long as I don't stay in Townsville, the two trains connect on the same day.

So I will be leaving you lot for about two weeks, don't do anything I wouldn't do.

No Trainz for two weeks, if only I could carry my PC around with me.:hehe:

So that's what Colhad will be doing for the next two weeks.

Nice on Colhad!

You got me on the title - thank you so much for the smile!
:)

I wish you happy trip, and look at the bright side, with no computer & Trainz you have more time to enjoy sitting around thinking how nice life was before Trainz - and to spend with all those around you that might too wish that you had a computer & Trainz around again. :)
Yes, I'm tired and sleepy - hence a try on a small funny text went not as well as planned.

Have a safe trip, enjoy the break and while I can't understand how one can survive without a computer for that long - it is nice to see that it should be possible. LOL

Best wishes

Linda

Have a good trip mate. make sure you catch the train in time and not stuck in the stair well like some moronic tourist on The Ghan.

Cheers

Trent

My pounding heart has finally returned to normal for me to reply :hehe:

Hope you have a great trip Col and a rest from Trainz. Although with all that spare time on your hands I am sure you will think of many new items to create or reskin. Maybe a new route is on the way based on your trip.

See you when you get back.

G'day Col,

You shouldn't do that!. Us poor old senile delinquents will have more heart attacks!.:eek::'(:(

Enjoy the journey (which you will bring back in photographic evidences, together with proof of Clon's Curry. I hear it's pretty good stuff mate). :hehe:

Looking forward to your safe return, after a totally exhilarating & refreshing trip.

I'm in Townsville, 2315-2330 was our motive power on the Sunlander. Arrived here at roughly 8:30am.

Found this net cafe, got my fix.:p

Might be able to find a net cafe in The 'Curry as well, so all is not lost.:hehe:

Took some photos of a couple of Nickel trains up here in Townsville. Think they will turn out ok, the sunlight wasn't perfect. I went up to the overpass over the tracks here in Townsville. Always wondered how you get there and today I found out.

Sounds like your having fun Col, at least the weather would be warmer then here on the Far South Coast of NSW.

Hope we see some photo's when you return home.

Staying at a cheap backpackers place, not sure I'm going to like it. 20 bucks for a room plus another 20 for the key but you get that back.

Just the thought of sharing a room with complete strangers has me worried, don't think I'll do this again. I have been thinking of sleeping outside somewhere, just don't feel comfortable at this place.

Well, I made it to the 'Curry. Arrived on Friday morning, another week to go.

The stay at the Backpackers wasn't too bad I guess, I left at 6am though the next morning.

Went up to Townsville station and waited for my train west, saw a couple more Nickel trains.

Done a bit of rail fanning here in the'Curry. Saw 2805-2803 idling in the yard at the head of a furtiliser train. I had a brief chat with the driver, he wasn't due to leave for about half an hour later.

I may head up there again this morning.

The Cloncurry Library has internet on so I'll be able to get my fix during the week that I'm here. I'm due home next Wendesday 24th June, leaving here on Monday.

I'll be in touch.:)

Colhad,
There is a line in "Wild Hogs" where Dudley says, "As long as we stop at some Wi-Fi hot spots...count me in!" Seems to refer to your journey too.
They have internet on some Amtrak trains here, do you have that in Australia?
And I've always wondered, is your passenger rail like ours, one big company or do the railroads run them?

Woody:)

Gee I thought I could smell curry!. :hehe:

Hi Col, 6am is just too early mate. Even when on hols.

Glad to read you've found library & internet. Are you limited to just 1/2 hour lumps, or can you go longer?.
I survived on library-internet (30 minute max per day) for about three months when i first got 'home' to oz (Jan 2008) after 20 years in NZ.
It was horrible!. I'd been used to b'band for about two or more years!!.
But I cheated & would go to two libraries; usually at least twice a week.
A far cry from online for hours each day.

Enjoy your time there & we look forward to updates. Any pics?

Well Queensland Rail currently runs the long distance trains and Citytrain services. ARG is about to start up in QLD, very shortly some QR locos will be painted in the ARG livery. We also have Pacific National running intermodal trains, they are also about to commence coal haulage.

Noel, this library here allows 1 hour time limits for 5 dollars. Very reasonable I think.
