African Route

My search of this Forum and the DLS returned very few results on African content and absolutely no Routes. Am I missing something?

Reskin some Australian rolling stock and you're quite close.
Route creation's quite fun too, I'd give it a try if I were you.
And there's always the forums for help. ;)

Cheerio,
Nicholas.

Thank You Michael. As a new user there is still plenty that i need to learn. I have done a lot of reading the past 3 weeks and this forum was of much help. Will let you know once i have build my first route.

Thank You Paul. I have already discovered your site and wondered at your beautifull creations. I am sure to pay you a visit soon.

Sorry to tell. Some time ago I made a route located at Tanger, Ceuta, Tetuan and other points near. It was uploaded by a friend of mine as the Mangonia R-R. It is not entirely real or it follows what I can remember from when I was a child living at that part of the World. Today it has grown and reaches Casablanca and Rabat. I have no plans to upload because I use much third party content, but is highly detailed and full of industries with planes and boats, everything in motion AI controlled. I believe that Mangonia R-R still could be found somewhere at DS albeit in a primitive state. And that part of the World is Africa, yes?

I cannot remember the Trainzer who made this but there is someone from Südafrika that made a route here and maybe some content. Perhaps others may remember.

Cheers

AJ

Perhaps some photos of typical stock may allow people to lead you to look-alikes that could be reskinned. Modern diesels sometimes look the same despite the county of origin.

We did have someone from South Africa at one time, I emailed with him about making a Garratt but his name is not in my address book. Ronin comes to mind but I could be way out.

Google for Trainz South Africa, Obo's catalogue lists one SAR diesel, I'll bet there is a likness already.

Jf you have TRS2006 or TS2007 or TD2010 there is a 2 ft gauge NGG11 in the Northbay route.

Peter

There are at leat 6 Trainz people in S Africa !!!! 4 are customers of mine.

One that springs to mind is Johan Van Zyl, who was creating (with his kids) locos and a couple of big routes for RSA. It was Joburg to Randfontein, only partly finished so far.

Johan and I worked for a LONG time on many items for RSA.

To llebrez. I gladly stand corrected, found your route Mangonia, from Africa on the DLS and downloaded it (route only). Learned some interesting things about Morocco on Wikipedia. Is Mangonia a real place, can not find it on Google Earth, perhaps you can forward a ZIP or postal code, traditional or ethnic name if indeed it is real.
Thank you for your input and your ROUTE FROM AFRICA.
Are there any Trainz users from Morocco out there?

misterchugg, I can tell you this, there is indeed a lot of BIG mountains and SNOW in Morocco as shown in this route.

Sorry for late reply: Mangonia is a ficticious name and it does not reflect anything of the area I maped. On that route, from Ceuta to Tetuan is fairly accurate as I remember from the very old times I was there. That being a narrow gauge train all steam with american locos and later with two MAN railcars that ultimately went to Spain to finish life there. Since I have travelled all over the World, I "added" to the World I created, parts of what most impressed me, so I made an alpine section with several spiral tunnels and several impossible bridges as the ones found in the line to St Moritz from Davos in Switzerland. Then, I made a connection from Ceuta to Tangiers, this has never been, but today the Morocans have built a line to near Ceuta for a container port you can see in Google Hearth. The line from Tangiers South is not in the Mangonia map you have because it was made by me after publishing it. In all, anyone interested, I can send CDP of this. Sorry but I was not able to upload anything or I did not have patience, but I can CDP a file of it and a list of dependencies that may not all be in DLS.

I am located in Polokwane (Pietersburg) in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, and recently started to model the local railways using TransDem and GoogleEarth with wonderful results. The route is for TS2009 (SP3) running in compatibility mode on a HP Probook 4710s-laptop with Windows 7. Most of the tracks are already in place, and I have started to fill in the blanks with scenery and industries, using various freeware sources.

I was beta-testing some of Johan's rolling stock late in 2008 before his sudden departure from the Trainz community, and am still using his coaches and wagons behind Pikkabird's 1460, 1460 DYN and 1502 narrow gauge diesels that are remarkably similar to the old SAR class 33-200 "Brommers" (bluebottles). Johan was creating two South African diesels (classes 31-000 and 34-600) and one electric unit (class 7E) for TS2009, but these never saw the light?

The western portion of the route features electric traction, while the trains in the eastern portion are diesel hauled, with Ladanna Yard being the cross-over point. This makes for very interesting operations. The South African railway system is, unfortunately, in a state of decline and the branch lines to many of the industries along the route are now abandoned.

Kind regards

Fred

the soil man - this is good news, thanx for sharing and keep us posted.

All interested - Mangonia RR - KUID 54833:100969

I have a 90km route located in South Africa. I run 6E1 and Class 34 locos and 5m2a emu units.
The 6E1 is the original Auran model which I have expanded to the correct size!!! regauged to 3'6", weathered, added various items like makers plates, automatic numbering (Numberit), improved pantos, sparking etc... and am working on a Spoornet reskin
The Class 34 was originally a barn700 loco but with the mesh modified and reskinned (under personal licence from barn700) and with my own bogies.
The Metro coaches are similarly modified barn700 ones (under licence) but with my own bogies and various LOD processes to reduce the computer load.
Both electric vehicles have sparking and a choice of "half" or "scissor" pantos.
I have also made a set of South African signals (with direction indicators) and am working on gantry versions.

Richard,

That sounds good! I would love to see your 34's, as these locos usually work northwards from Polokwane (34-600 and 34-800 classes). The 6E1's are used on the 3kV DC lines in South Africa, and are currently being converted to the new 18E class. The lines south from Polokwane are 25kV AC, however. Are your signals available for download somewhere?

Kind regards

Fred
