Adding vehicles to operate on roads?

N5VAV

TPR Route Creator
Hi All.
I've downloaded most of Lothar's HP cars and vehicles. VERY NICE.
I'd like to have some of them run on the roads along with the other cars.

I know this can be done, as I've seen other routes with custom vehicles running on the roads.

Is there a way in Content creator to modify some file to specify custom vehicles to run on the roads?

For clarification, I am NOT talking about drivable vehicles like locomotives, I'm meaning scenery cars running on the roads.

Thanks for any help!

Jeff

If you're using TS12, I suggest this thread and look for my findings. It involves creating a "Region" (you could clone one that's already made and change the vehicles) and then amending the config.txt of each vehicle you wish to use. It's a bit tricky and time-consuming, but well worth the effort when you see the results.

I put together my own Traffic Region for jayholland, PEV and mckinnell's period vehicles. It may be worth your while downloading it and the dependencies and dissecting them to see how they work.

All the best

Making cars appear on roads.

The cars listed by a Search for Category Vehicle in the Contant Manager are kind Scenery and are only static scenery assets. The cars that can drive on roads are also kind scenery list under Search for Category Track Objects. The easiest way to convert a car to be driven on a road is to:
1. Right click the car and select Edit - Edit in Explorer.
2. Double click the config.txt file to open it in Notepad.
3. Add this line:
trackside 0.01
4. Save and commit.

To put the car on a road you have to add its kuid number to the carz list in your route's region file.

Jeff my recent EVWR route has a custom region that uses a mix of HP_Trainz and aarial traffic, you are welcome to use and/or modify it...

Wow,
Thank you to EVERYONE that helped get this working. In TS10, I just added Car0 and KUID, Car1 KUID, etc. and it all worked great!

Thing is, when I took Sandpatch from TS10 to TS12, the Download Helper didn't see ANY of LotharHake's HP cars, and said they were unknown. ARGH.

I'd like for all content to be on DLS and downloadable, but since the cars won't be able to be found, I've decided to remove them from the route :(

For 2010 routes, I may leave the lines in the config, but for TS12, I'll take all the custom cars out. ESPECIALLY with the multiplayer aspect.

Thanks again guys!

Jeff TS12's content manager is in my experience the worst yet at actually finding DLS assets. Repeatedly dragging the route into the download window will eventually find all dependencies, but it often takes a while. It is actually faster (and more reliable!) to right click the route > Show Dependencies > Show in Main List and manually drag the DLS assets into the download window.

The traffic cars though are dependencies of the region, not the route and although in theory CM should garner sub-dependencies you will have much more luck dragging the region asset into the download window rather than dragging the route in. And even more luck doing that one manually also...
