Adding Trains

WCL

Canadian National
How is there a way to make the red trains on the right show up?? I know there was a way to make them work but I just forgot how to make em work...The SP ones were the ones that came with this but now they are red and not show up....

I swear there was something ya click on when you choose your trains to make them work....How did the SP ones that came with the game all of a sudden not work???

Look for it in content mangler, right click on it, select Edit, then revert (or revert to original if that's an option). Most of the built in content for TS2010 is older stuff they set the error checker to ignore instead of fixing errors, so once it's opened for edit it becomes fair game for the error checker. Starting Trainz commits anything open for edit (unless you have that disabled) so now the built in is no longer built in, so the error checker flags it for any faults.

Okay, ill give that a shot once and see what happens....Its weird that the SP stuff worked that came with 12 worked and now it dont....But will try that and see what happens

I've had it open certain assets for edit by itself, particularly engine specs. No idea why, if I'm editing an Alco RS-11 cabview it has no reason to open the engine spec for the RS-11, if I view dependencies for a session that doesn't even use one of the electric steeple cab locos why would it want to open the engine spec for that? Yet it does, first indication I get that something was open is when I click the "Launch Trainz" button and see "committing asset C-41 engine spec" before the "Please wait while content manager shuts down". No connection I can find, I was editing a boxcar that don't use the C-41 engine spec, or downloading a building, it just decided the C-41 engine spec needed to be opened for edit. I've gotten into the habit of checking for faulty assets a couple times a day now, and the first thing I do is Edit, Revert, which usually fixes whatever is flagged faulty.

And if that does not do the trick??? Say if one asset has more than 1 faulty thing wrong with it, do you have to keep reverting it to make them all go away or how can one get the faulty stuff to work if reverting does not do the trick???

Sometimes a Data Base Repair will fix assets that are not broken. Clicking on Revert to Original (if available) will usually take care of it. I have had it happen to me.

See the thing is...I dont have that option to revert

But when I click on edit-open for edit then revert comes up but when I click on it, it does nothing

This is one of the SP units that came with the game and this is whats all faulty and wont make it show up in game

Any other ideas on how to fix faulty stuff???

Hi,
I see from your top picture almost every item has been edited, the green triangle shows it has been modfied. As stated before highlight the item, R click the item then select open for edit. When open for edit R click again, select edit then L click on revert to original. This should make the green triangle disappear.

Cheers,

Bill is correct. You have too many dependencies with errors. You need to open (edit) each broken item and revert it. When you are finished your loco should be error free and available in game.

The red puzzle piece is not the same as the red exclamation mark.

What you have there is assets with faulty DEPENDENCIES. In other words whatever you do to the asset itself the error checker pays no attention to, because it checks dependencies first, if any of those are missing or faulty it doesn't even check the asset itself.

What you need to do there is RIGHT click, View Dependencies, View in main list. Then select the faulty dependency and see if you can revert that.

Not so! 'Locally Modified' is a completely inaccurate description and goodness knows how it snuck through. Certainly anything you DO edit gets the green triangle, but EVERY 3rd Party asset not built-in or on the DLS also has the mark. Most of that 'cnr' content is from TrainzProRoutes: it is third party content - but NOT necessarily edited!

Ugh, why can't this be like 2010 where the stuff actually worked when it was faulty. Damn you 2012 >(

You have a bunch of things confused here, "came with the game" - if it came with the game that's called "built in", and you can see the "built in" tag by hovering the mouse over the little notebook icon on the left. "Local" doesn't mean the same as "built in", you can fix faulty tags for built in content by right clicking and revert, but if it didn't "come with the game" that won't fix the errors.

EMD 10 Blade 48 Radiator Fan,<kuid2:45324:85308:2>

Is shown in one of your pics, that IS built in and the right click - edit - revert should fix it.

edc_dock_7789,<kuid:1984:27789>

Is not built in, it did not come with the game, you probably downloaded a route which required that and the download helper installed it for the route. That one is build 1.3, if I right click and "View errors and warnings" and ignore the ones about thumbnail containers and obsolete build not supported, I have left;

Error: Unable to load animation file 'hash-26\kuid 1984 27789/edc_dock_7789/anim.kin' (no resource).
Error: Unable to load animation file 'hash-26\kuid 1984 27789\edc_dock_7789\anim.kin' (no resource).

I suspect your best bet is to download this;

edc dock 7789-TRS2010,<kuid:439337:100164>

And use the "replace assets" utility in surveyor for whatever route uses it. Although whatever route uses it probably has a lot of other problems, might be better finding another route.

Other things on the list, I can't find any SP AC4400 or CN SD50 or SD60, so you must have gotten those from a third party website.

CP AC4400cw #9531,<kuid:95761:205>
CP AC4400cw #9586,<kuid:95761:206>

Those are both build 2.0, which predates TRS2004, I haven't downloaded them to see what errors they may have but probably a bunch.

I would suggest using TS2010 with compatibility mode if you're going to download a bunch of old stuff and don't want to take the time to learn how to fix it, use TS12 only for modern stuff or start learning how to update.

I know how to use it as I done everything ones been saying to do, but the darn thing is not working with me on making it work the right way.

Please read Post #17 very slowly. Sniper has laid it out for you very well. Old content contains errors and needs to be repaired to work in 2010/12 native mode. I am using tons of old content in 2010, but have spent many hours doing repairs and there are tools available to help as well as advice and guidance from the forums. Give it a try.

I think the problem is you're looking for a "one way works for everything, no assembly required" method and there ain't one. Revert or Revert to original only works for built in assets if the asset itself is flagged faulty, if it's flagged as having a faulty dependency then the dependency is what needs to be fixed.

Older content is a completely different story, completely different methods for fixing those, and exactly HOW you fix each one depends on what exactly is wrong with it. One says "Tag Icon 0 is obsolete" can be fixed by deleting that line from the config.txt, but deleting Tag Icon 0 from one that doesn't have that tag and is reporting a missing texture is obviously not gonna work for that one.

There's a reason why that's 22 pages, changing the spark plug might work to get a lawnmower running, but changing the spark plugs in a diesel tractor won't work because diesels don't have spark plugs.
