Adding Industries

Hi - as a newbie I have been using the tutorials in TR2006. I liked Highland Valley Industries - logs to the mill, woodchips to the pulp mill. BUT what happens next? There is a pile of lumber at the mill & presumably some pulp at the pulp mill as well as some general goods. Where do these go to? My questions: How do I set up a new industry? For example - a factory where lumber is turned into furniture. This is almost the same as the lumber mill - goods in & then goods out. Then the furniture can be delivered by train to a retailer. But since the retailer sells the furniture there is no goods onward for a train to collect. How do you arrange that? Goods in but none out - but new goods are always needed. Taking this a step further - can trucks be programmed to collect goods & deliver them? Or am I running before I can walk? I hope this makes sense. Any help would be much appreciated.
One last question - on the City & Country USA scenario - Commodities --there is reference to an Engineers Handbook which has a chart of available Industries & Commodities. Where do I find this? Regards, ChrisD

RTFM...

I've forgotten what that means since I've retired. I used to tell my users to do this all the time! :)

Seriously though this will be the same process even if you update to the latest version.

I deliver both furniture and general good to a container yard, where they are loaded into containers and taken off route in a container train, circulating between portals. The pulp mill consumes pulp and makes general goods. I don't know of a ready made furniture industry. So you build a factory using structures that please you and lay down a M.I.N. or Lars track for furniture to consume lumber and produce furniture.

Hi both, Thanks for your replies. I got a coal mine & power station placed & working OK. I also placed a Factory 8 GenGoods which uses Lumber & produces General Goods - just what I was after. The furniture was just an example. However, I could not get the lumber to unload - so I am missing something. There is a yellow hatched line along the front of the building which has track already on it. What is that for? I have vaguely heard of Lars, but know nothing about it. Help, please! I am in the same situation as you, John, so KISS would be the best idea.
On a slightly different topic - which is the best version of Trainz to have? Regards, ChrisD
