acer aspire one A150

hello I have been given a netbook acer aspire ,it has 1gb of ram and 120 gb hdd ,1.6 hz intel atom processor does any one know if trainz would run on this machine. manythanks George

It should be able to! I would not want to tackle any of the large, complex routes... but the small simple ones should run just fine.

I'm using my Acer Aspire (with 1.5GB RAM) to type this and it has TC3 installed on it. Whilst it does run it isn't particularly usable though and about all I use it for is checking content looks OK and taking screenshots.

Mike.

thank you mike all I wanted to do with the laptop was to edit a route I am working on ,So I was planning to install TC3 and just use survuyer to work on the route while I was at work then come home and add from the laptop via usb key the changes to my main pc .manythanks George

I've tried that, and it didn't work, it was just too unstable to use. TC3 and below I would try, but not 09.

What's the graphics card - if it's a dedicated brand card you might be okay but if it's just an on board Intel Gfx chip it will struggle?

Also see my other posts regarding my own laptop (Inspiron 1520 which is a very similar spec) which can't run TS2009 without killing the graphics driver every 20 mins and crashing to a grey screen and in the process has transmitted the fault to earlier versions.

As an aside, I did run TRS2004 and TRS2006 with considerable success on an old Compaq Presario which was about 1/3 the overall power of this Inspiron, with very few problems.

Intel GMA950. The machines can cope, but the settings have to be on low, because of the limitations of the graphics chip. The specific chip is just about the worst one of the GMA line, like the core clock is only 166mhz (yet, other models run at 400mhz!), the RAM speed is capped to about 400mhz to 533mhz and the intel Atom processor is no speed demon either. Some benchmarks put it as comparable to the Celeron processors they replaced in older eeePCs!

But for a little machine, it is amazing to what it CAN cope with, if you don't mind draining the battery :)

(Although I am probably talking about eeePCs, the hardware is pretty much identical to other Atom built netbooks as well.)
