I have purchased 2x2gb Crucial ram to replace the 2x1gb ram, but I am now having trouble removing the compartment cover. Has anyone with an Acer 5920G attempted this? I have undone the 7 screws but the cover appears to be attached to something inside so I have abandoned my efforts in case I damage something!!
John.

I have found the answer by d/loading a service manual for the laptop (from 9manuals). In the manual it showed 2 more screws which I could not see as they were still covered with a circle of plastic! I will now hope that the extra 2gb of memory will boost the performance of Trainz on this Vista laptop, especially in tr2009 beta. John.

Sorry but you got nothing to gain anyway. I own a 7520G and tested it running visita on 2GB and then on 3GB and 4GB, There was verly little inprovement on any of the benchmark testing tools from 2-3Gb and Vista did not even see the 4GB when it was tested the best it would report was 3 GB.

It was not worth the capital outlay for more than 2gb for the very small gain on offer.

The biggest problem with Acer laptops is the graphics setup, if you have a model with a shared Graphics Memory adapter your pretty much stuffed. The only way to get good results is one with a decicated Graphics adapter

I have got an 8920G and 9920G and TBH, they run Trainz very well, although, they do have a different graphics setup, i.e. an 8600 GT card in the 9920 and a 9650 in the 8920. (Although, the latter was the highest spec I can find.)

What card is in your 5920?

The 5920G runs most routes fine, it is the large, densely created ones that cause problems like low frame rates and the resulting stuttering. The worst example of this is the Carlisle-Skipton route.
My desktop pc needs upgrading but still runs Trainz better than the laptop so I try to keep to this when running the large routes. I will have to start from scratch when I do upgrade as the mobo is AGP and I have an ATI X800XL card so have gone as far as I can with this setup.
John.
PS i HAVE REPEATED THIS POST TO GET THREAD IN CORRECT TIME!!
