about TRAINZ 2006 cmp 100 meg limit

Gandalf0440 Thanks for the info on the discussion about the limits. I guess If all the respondents want to call your way of getting around the limit stealing, then anytime one finds a legal way to beat the system they will call that stealing. I hope this puts and end to the discussion a and I await a Im sorry for calling you a thief from all my fellow TRAINZERS out there.

Some people are too conservative to leave the computer on all night, when mom takes the kids to soccer, when dad leaves for the park and ride, and when the kids are doing homework... lol. Isnt that kinda like "Pirating? or committing some sort of illegal activities?".... Yes, I am 14, and I know its totally wrong to do that sorta stuff. I wish even adults could just live a normal life, although 75% do. Sorry if it sounded a bit disrespectful .

Switchmaster here. I leave my computer on over night, not every night but only when I need too. If I am downloading a large file I will let it run all night. Also I set a time for my computer to do its housekeeping and almost all the times it is done at night on a certain day. Dont worry about being disrespectful to me you were not. I appreciate your input and am glad that you took the time to read my post. Enjoy being a teenager. Before you know it you will no longer be one and when you become an adult I hope you can look back on your teen years and say I had a wonderful time and enjoyed every minute of them.

Respectfully

So it takes a little time to download all the items but I let it run during the night and by the next day all the items are there. Also when one is on a fixed income every dollar counts.

Perhaps I'm being a bit dim but surely if you allow it to run for more than a day the DLS limit will have reset anyway and you have 200MB available.

Gidday switchmaster,
I'd just like to offer you a slightly different prospective on you sometimes downloading over 100 megs within a 24 hour period, without a FCT...
If everyone in the Trainz community adopted a simular attitude/method of circumventing the so called '100 mgs daily limit', then no one in the community would buy a FCT.
Now if no one buys a FCT, Auran wouldn't get the required revenue it needs to offer/maintain their server/s & pay the wages to those that process the uploads, etc, etc....
So business practice 101; No revenue, no server/s, no server/s no downloads.... Pretty simple really!!!!!

When you sit down and think about it, all those in the Trainz community that have FCT's are infact covering Auran's costs of maintaining those server/s. Full stop!!! You might find some within the community that think if you 'can afford to have a FCT', and doesn't, then your freeloading off those that do!!!

Now we all know that no matter what, there are going to be some within the community that for whatever reason, eg; they either don't want too, & or can't afford too, whatever!!! just won't get a FCT & hey, "that's OK".
Me, I'm quite happy to dig deep into my trouser pockets for the 8c or 9 cents (NZ) a day that it costs me for my FCT. (Cheapest investment - veruses - enjoyment I've ever made).
(Now, I just want to make myself crystal clear here, I'm not calling you a thief or a freeloader)!!! (the last thing I would want to do is to upset a fellow Trainzer).
I see in your profile that you are retired, (innitally thought you where a teenager).
--- So why don't you become a team player & come onboard???
We'd all luv to see ya onboard! - (My one pound, two shillings worth)...
Cheers, Mac...

As a retierd telecommunication tech I am quite aware as to what DSL can do. Having worked in the Central Office on Western Electric 5ESS switches and in the carrier department I know first hand how long dsl will stay on line. As long as a ping is sent to the host server it will allow you to stay on line until you sign off. A ping is just short tone that is transmitted from one computer to another computer or server at a set interval. It will not interfeer with the data being sent, it just acknowledges that you are still on line even if no do not type anything from the keyboard. Also once you turn on your computer your DSL is active. By the way I also worked on setting up video distance learning for several school districts and we were told that the best way to save ones electronics is that once it is powered on, try to leave them on. I keep my sattelite recievers on 24-7.

Lets put this to rest for the last time.

I did a little experiment using the TRAINZ DOWNLOADER PRO ( DLP ) and the TRAINZZ CONTENT MANAGER PRO ( CMP ).

I asked the DLP to find rolling stock, It came back with 7816 items. These I can sort by type of rolling stock, country, and region. When I ran the CMP it gave me only 160 items. Difference of -7656 items.

I will continue to use the DLP for my downloads. Also I am tired of loading in a layout to TRAINZ 2006, looking for missing assets only to be told they are not on the DOWNLOAD STATION or obsolite by newer version. If I write the KUID down on paper and look for the item in the DLP 99% of the time the item will be found ( the missing kuid from the CMP ) or If the obsolite item is entered, it will give me the item with a later history so I can get the latest KUID needed. So if you are content with getting the message not found or obsolite keep using the CMP program and be happy.

I now have said all I am going to say about this here thread. I will no longer respond to new posts about this.I didn't think it would cause such a long discussion on one subject. I think we have said our peace and should move on.
