It's rather old news now, but I thought I would bring it up. I would love to see a P2 on the main line, they were beautiful locos. What are other's thoughts on this?

thoughts? well, for starters, I know where my next vacation after this beast is completed will be too :hehe:

Seriously though, how is it you brits can build long-scrapped loco classes back from the dead, and we're hard pressed to keep steam RUNNING 'round this end of the pond?

Would be nice but I think it's extremely unlikely at the moment that they could get enough funding.

I know, I don't think there's much interest in steam over the pond TBH. I know where MY next vacation would be to if UP got one of their Big Boys up'n'running too, but I can't see it happening. It's not just the A1 Trust though, they are hundereds of new build projects here, some fairly close to completion, such as Hengist:

...And many more. Are the any US new-build projects?

They built an A1, and don't forget the P2's have about 50% part commonality with them, so it's not impossible.

Well, if they are planning a P2, Wonder what name they will give it? (I suggest.. Charles Dickens! The guy who wrote Oliver twist and great Expectations! what do you think?)

Good one! My hat's in the ring for this name!

That is something the Brits definetly got on us Americans....We build em bigger, but they like em more (sadly).

Best of luck to them, and here's to hoping they become what the originals weren't!

Yes, true, does make a point that there probably will not be a band new built steam locomotive in the U.S.

Actually, as I'm mentioned twice already in this thread, there is one planned. Look further up this page at my post regarding the new steam locomotive of Project 130.

Yes, Project 130 is restoring a steam locomotive, but after that a totally new steam locomotive is to be designed and built.
