I recently upgraded to an HP Pavilion running Windows 7, 64-bit. I have a 6-core processor and a lot of memory and was looking forward to running Trainz 2006 with much better resources. I wanted to stay with TRS 2006 because I didn't want to lose all my content and I like the program. I am using an NVidia GeForce GT530 graphics card and running DirectX 11.

So I installed TRS 2006 on my new machine and moved all the content there by copying the "local" folder into the new Trainz folder. (I think I imported the content then, but my memory on that is hazy). That's when I realized that TRS 2006 just wasn't going to work on my new computer. It kept locking up.

But I fixed everything, and here's how.

First, I'm assuming a few things:
1. You've made sure you're still registered online at Auran
2. You've entered your name and password into the Content Manager Plus program.
3. Your content is showing in CMP.
4. Any content open for edit in CMP has been committed.

So here's what I did:

1. Right-click on the TRS2006 icon on your desktop or in Windows Explorer. Select Properties > Compatibility and select these three items:
a. Run in compatibility mode for Windows 2000
b. Disable display scaling on high DPI settings
c. Run this program as an administrator.

2. Select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Changer User Account Control Settings, and move slider to "Never notify."

3. Select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Allow a program through Windows Firewall > Allow another program > Browse > Program Files (x86) > Auran > TRS2006 > Bin > Content Manager

3. Select Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Allow a program through Windows Firewall > Allow another program > Browse > Program Files (x86) > Auran > TRS2006 > TRS2006

And that's what did it for me. Everything runs smooth as silk, now.

Even though I am using a different virus program that took the place of Windows Firewall, it takes all its information from what I tell Windows Firewall to do--and all the lock-ups I was experiencing were actually being caused by Windows, which was still trying to protect my computer. The constant "Oh gee, what should I do now?" messages in the background, invisible to me, were locking up Trainz.

Euphod, do you know how I can change the title of the thread? No one will be able to find it with this title. I edited and changed it several times, but it's still "a."

Once a thread has been replied to, only a moderator can change the title. The moderator I normally ask is AJ_Fox - try sending him a PM.
