a question about signals

Hi guys.
Im trying to get my head around when to use what semaphore signals. Ive set up a track where I have an up and down fast and slow, with passenger loops and sidings etc. Now when it comes to signalling Im not sure if Im just not placing the signals in the correct place or using the correct ones. For example on the up line, the passenger loop turnoff is just before the slow lane. Both of these go either side of a platform. No problem there. I placed a GWR home left branch bracket signal between the passenger loop turnoff and slow turnoff to control the up fast and up slow lines.
What happens is that when setting the line for the up fast (right hand lane) the lights change from red to no colour but the signal does not drop to show a green but the train proceeds on its way. However when the line is set for up slow the right hand signal drops to green raises again then drops a second time. The left hand signal which is the one I presume should control that line does not change.
So where am I going wrong? Or is it to do with the signals at the other end of the line? As I am stopping the train before the next set of lights Im not sure that is the case.

If you click on the signal in question, it will tell you what it thinks is wrong, i.e. "Line ahead unsignalled" or some other reason.

This is a good site for signalling, http://www.signalbox.org/index.php
Section 9 has diagrams to help you understand what signals go where & what type to use.

Are you using the Sig T Feather ...(Right/Left/Straight) indicators that link to the signals in TS2009? Without these placed after the junction I think you'll find the signals don't work properly.

Adding to Orpheus's' post you also need to ensure that the junction signal reads past the feather indicators to another signal or track object that acts like a signal (Bufferstops etc) on the same section of track , otherwise the signal will not work and will remain at danger .

Thanks all. I had already read the webpage mentioned by Blackwatch but I was unaware of the feathering. Now all I have to do is find them in the assets :)

ok Im stuck again. I cant seem to locate the sig feathers. I assume that they should be in the signal rollout but I dont seem to have any. In that case can anyone tell me what the name of them is on DLS so I can download them please? Or have I missed something completely? are they part of the signal that I have not figured out how to activate?

Do a search on the DLS for "Sig T" that should bring up the theatre and feather track boards .

If not try a username search for "Bloodnok" or kuid "60850"

Ok I have the sigs now installed. Ive placed the left and straight feathers on the appropriate track. How do I link these to the signals? Or do I have to use a particular set of signals for them to work? (Im currently using the GWR or LMS signals for trials).

Oh another question. Following the advise on another thread I have downloaded the signals from http://www.trainzclassics.co.uk/ My question is where do I put the .cdp files now I have downloaded them and how do I access them. Ive had a look in the manual and for threads on here but cant locate anything about them.

They automatically link to the signals, provided all items are correctly sited.

It also helps if they are the correct signals dooh! Having finally realised that I am using straight forward GWR signals and getting no where, I finnally noticed a small but not insignificant difference as on DLS there were some called sig gwr... These work just fine :)
Now all I need to do is signal the track correctly :)

Hi

Go back to the http://www.trainzclassics.co.uk/ site and look under guides. There is a semaphore signalling tutorial that explains the block system and also how to set up the junction signals.

You will find more signals on the http://www.settleandcarlisle.co.uk/index.html site along with other items which are specifically for TS2009. The locos and rolling stock on the sites however will require you to have either TC3 or the SnC Add On before they can be used.

Regards

Brian
