98592 Crashes on Exit

Added an EIT overlay on a route. Decided to close the surveyor. The program was saved but immediately afterwards it crashed with only a brief flicker of the Launcher on-screen. This has happened before and I have better things to do than fiddle with that. Normally I just reload the Launcher and the program/route. Maybe I loose 2 minutes which compared to the past ain't so bad. However, this last event caused a rebuild that lasted for 45 minutes. I just opened CNN on another window and caught up on the news while it "did its thing".:'(

After the rebuild I started TRS19. Launcher was ok. The program opened and I went to the Session Select area. Clicked on the session. It asked if I wanted to use the changes and I said yes, and it crashed.

Repeated the process. Arrived at the request for keeping changes. I once again answered yes and the route loaded. I decide to not take any more chances so I closed the route and opened the Content database manager to make a backup CDP. Interesting that the program showed Open For Edit. I had done no editing but who knows, only The Shadow knows.

Reverted to the original. Executed the DP backup ok. Another attempt ________...>>>>

Once again I was asked if I wanted to Revert. So, I checked the Content database manager and the program was not open for edit.

With no real choice in the saga I Reverted and opened the session ok. Looked at a few things and set Trainz #19 aside. Time for my after school cartoons.

The open for edit thing is the new behavior with TRS19 and T:ANE. It's the safety net now when things go wrong instead of the autobackup which caused so much angst when things froze up without warning. (It was actually working as intended, but without a message it seemed like a lock-up as it was writing files).

What I've done when I've had those crashes is to revert rather than continue. If there's a crash like that, my thinking is it's probably the last asset I placed that's bad and it's best not to do that again, besides, I got burned in the past continuing on because that corrupted the session I was working on.

Once I've saved and moved on, I'll go into Content Manager and clean up the open for edit asset, by deleting it. By that time, the route or session has been long saved and long past that point where that particular version is needed again. As always if you're unsure do a backup first to CDP.
