hi all

was just looking at getting 2 9800gt graphics cards and put them in sli anw was wondering has anyone else got the card and could tell us how the card runs (with or without sli)?

Thanks
Nathah

My understanding is that SLI needs some sort of accommodation or configuration file which does not exist as far as I am aware for Trainz.

I have a 9800GT and it runs TS09 native like a bat out of hell.

I run it in Vista Home Premium 64bit w 4GB memory.

Great card.

Cheers

Yes but that's probably because you're near sea level. At high altitudes the performance may be different.

I bought a Packard Bell 6810 SLI with 2 x 6800 GPUs and it ran TC3 very well. The PC itself is a crock and I have more or less given up trying to get it repaired now.I can't say whether the SLI contributed to it packing up though.

You will see almost no difference with SLI in Trainz. I have 9800GTX+ and it run fine at 1920x1200.

I have a 9800GTX+ also and it gives excellent framerates even in Settle & Carlisle and Angelah's WCL1, specially when overclocked! Well worth the money!! John.

Or even better, wait until the next generation cards come out in a week for ATI (HD 5850 and 5870) and another month or two for nVidia (G300 to GTX 380 maybe?). Then either grab one of the new cards, or one from the GTX 200 series/HD 4800 series, as it is sure to come down in price in the coming months.

Just my thoughts.

The new stuff has Directx 11 and in my opinion waiting until its available would be sensible. If nohing else the older cards should be sold off cheaper.

Check tomshardware.com graphic card comparison charts.

There will always be a newer better card out soon!

Yes but major changes such as Directx 11 do not come every day. This is a very major change.

Trainz may not use it today but other titles will be using it very shortly. Have a dig at tomshardware.com for background.

Actually I'm below sea level, so my card is probably supercharged or something.

But seriously, folks. Waiting for the next generation to appear is a very smart move. It will bring down the prices of todays cards considerably. GTX may be within reach!

Cheers
